What's Happening in Social Studies
Sixth graders have completed their study of ancient Egypt. They brought their learning to life through the creation of their own temple where they got to display their knowledge of ancient Egyptian architecture, religious beliefs and social structure. Students have now begun their study of ancient Greece and its far-reaching influence.
Seventh graders competed in an "Escape Room" activity in order to learn about the Magna Carta and its impact on Feudalism. Thankfully, everyone succeeded in escaping. WHEW! We are now journeying to Asia, where we will study the Geography, Religions, Achievements, Politics, Economics, and Social Structures that defined medieval societies there.
Eighth grade Social Studies classes just finished the Colonization of America Unit and are just beginning a new unit on the events leading to the Revolutionary War. We will be discussing the taxes, boycotts, and reactions of the colonists that ultimately lead to the independence of the American colonies. Students will be studying essential events like the Boston Massacre, the Boston Tea Party, the Battles of Lexington and Concord, and the declaring of independence from Great Britain.Mrs. In December, students will be analyzing the Declaration of Independence and writing their own declarations of independence from something in their lives using the original as a model.
