The Llewellyn Friday Flyer
October 27, 2023
Dear Families,
As November 1st draws near, we are all hoping that PPS and our teachers' union (PAT) are able to reach an agreement and avoid the closing of schools. However, if this is not the case, PPS has made contingency plans for students and families. These plans continue to be refined, as we speak. You can find more information at pps.net/strikeresources. Another important website to visit is the Resources to Support Learning webpage.
Contained in these websites is a ton of information, so I'd like to highlight a few important points:
- The Llewellyn School Building will be closed. Those of us in the office will be able to be reached by phone or email, however.
- You can find important information about meal service, food pantries, the PTA Clothing Center and more at this link: Family Resource Guide. Unfortunately, Llewellyn will NOT be serving Grab & Go Meals. Schools nearby (Grout & Hosford MS will serve meals to all students regardless of where they attend school.)
- To continue learning while out of school, next Tuesday, students in grades 3-5 will bring home their Chromebooks and will have access to all apps on the PPS learning page.
- Likewise on Tuesday, students in Grades K-2 will be sent home with a Chromebook if you responded "Yes" to the survey sent earlier this week. You will also receive your child's Quick Card for signing in to the device. (Additional information on using these QuickCards can be found here:
- Using QuickCards on Chromebook. Using QuickCards on a mobile device
- Additionally, K-2 students that have demonstrated the highest need for foundational skills will be offered online reading coaching services. Those who will be participating in the Reading Coaching will also bring home a Learning Packet to be used during the coaching sessions.
- Remember, all learning opportunities are optional, not required.
- All computers that are taken home will be assigned to your child. Please help us to have all computers returned when school resumes. We rely on our Chromebooks for many learning opportunities and assessments.
- If you need Tech Support, please call 503-916-3375 or email support@pps.net.
I will continue to reach out and update you with any school-specific updates in the coming days. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or need our help. Thank you for your continued support and flexibility in these challenging days.
*********************************************************************************************************
Please Note: While on Tuesday evening, many students will be celebrating Halloween, during the school day costumes will not be worn.
I'd like to end with a GIANT THANK YOU to the Sunshine Committee for brightening our day yesterday with the incredible snack bags. We are fortunate to have such a wonderful community that wraps around us in so many ways! 🥰
Sincerely,
Principal Pam

From The Office
Photo Make-up & Retakes will be on November 7th from 8:30-10:30 am ONLY!
Did your student miss photo day? Was it a picture you don’t want to send Grandma? Here’s your chance to get a good one! Re-Take Day is coming up on November 7th. Please be sure your student is here between 8:30 and 10:30AM if they need to get their picture taken! If you received physical pictures, and are getting a re-take, please be sure to send the original pictures with your student to hand over to the photographers. More information can be found HERE.
From the Office, Health Room, PE teacher, et al..
If your student is injured (needs a cast, splint, crutches, etc.), PLEASE be sure to share physician’s instructions with the office WHEN YOUR STUDENT RETURNS. We need to know what your student should and should not be doing physically while at school. We CANNOT take your student’s word for it. If you share it with the Office, we will be happy to share it with ALL the appropriate teachers and the health room.
Thank you for helping us make sure your student is healthy and safe!
Donations Needed!
Have a pile of clothes to donate? We've hit our wet season, which means the clothing lockers at Llewellyn are running low. We are in great need of gently used pants and long sleeve or layering shirts in sizes: youth 10/12, 12/14, 14/16, 16/18 and Adult Small and Medium. As you go through your closet and find things to donate, bring them to the office. Ms. Kellie will be collecting them and organizing what Llewellyn can use. What cannot be used will be brought to the PTA Clothing Closet by our parent volunteer, Kimberly LeVelle.
School Spirit Days
Every Friday will be a School Spirit Day. Students and staff are encouraged to wear their Llewellyn gear new or old. One Friday per month will be a fun theme. On 11/17 it will be Mismatch Day!
Mismatch Day- Friday, November 17th!
Mix up your favorite colors and patterns and show your school spirit!

PTA Happenings
We’re singing in the rain… well not singing but we are definitely in it. Keep your raincoats and boots by the door from now on out. But it looks like we will have a break in the rain this weekend which is great since we have some exciting plans…
The Monster March is this Sunday, October 29 at 3 pm and is starting and ending at Llewellyn!! Remember to wear your costumes and be prepared to purchase some tasty baked goods from our 5th grade students. They will be holding a bake sale during and after the march in order to raise money for their 5th grade overnight trip. Please support our students by purchasing as many baked goods as you can stomach :) and bring your best costumes to march with us and build up this community event. We are so glad this event is back at our school and we hope to see a huge turnout of Llewellyn families! Both of these events are in need of volunteers so please sign up!

Our pumpkin decorating contest will be on October 31! Bring in your decorated/carved pumpkin to school to win a prize! Students must be able to carry their own pumpkin and take it home after school. We are so grateful to Marie Lathrop of Lathrop Family Orthodontics who is sponsoring our amazing prizes this year!
We need your help! We still have two wonderful opportunities for you to get involved in our amazing Llewellyn PTA. We are in immediate need of a volunteer to head up the volunteer committee chair on our board. This person would be in charge of overseeing all committees and making sure they have volunteers to head up events and to navigate Konstella in order to communicate with committee chairs, create sign ups and post announcements.
The second is the lead committee chair for our Read-a-Thon fundraiser in January. We are still building this new committee and look forward to sharing the details soon. Please email llewellynpta@gmail.com if you are interested in being a part of either of these positions. You would have full guidance and support from our board and we look forward to working with you to help our students to continue to get the resources and support that they need in the classroom.
With school closures being a possibility, we want to make sure you stay informed and that we continue to provide support for any Llewellyn families in need. Make sure you are signed up for Konstella so that you can stay connected and up-to-date to any news or events happening as well as ways to get involved at our school. The invitation code for Llewellyn is PNS7TQ. Any events that follow are subject to change due to possible school closure.
OBOB Informational Session on November 9
Is your 3rd, 4th or 5th grader interested in participating in OBOB? The Oregon Battle of the Books (OBOB) is a statewide program to encourage students who love reading to broaden their reading interests. Students starting in 3rd grade will form teams, read a variety of books, and participate in a friendly competition to test their comprehension, collaborate as a team, and get the added benefit of being exposed to a variety of literary styles and viewpoints.
Come to an informational session on November 9 from 2:30-3:15 in the Llewellyn library. Our amazing librarian, Treasa Street, will explain how OBOB works and how to participate. Signups will begin in November and Llewellyn's OBOB event will take place Feb. 22 and 23.
You can find out more on the Llewellyn OBOB website. Contact parent volunteer Sarah Sell at sarah.s.sell@gmail.com if you have questions or would like to help with this event.
Family Craft Night will be held the evening of December 7th at Llewellyn. We need someone to coordinate parents and/or community members to run a craft table. This event will be held in the gym and there needs to be several crafts available. Volunteers recruited simply need to come up with the idea, bring the supplies and instruct the kids/families. To learn more email melisap@windermere.com.
And finally no matter what happens in November, one thing is for sure. You. Need. Pie. The PTA Willamette Pie fundraiser is back for its second year! Choose from traditional favorites like apple and pumpkin, as well as chocolate, hand pies, mini pies, and more. Pies come frozen and will be ready for your enjoyment over the winter holidays (or sooner!). Pick up will be after school on December 11. Details on how to order are coming soon!

New Report Cards for 2023-24 Academic Year
During the 2022-23 school year, a team of educators from over 20 PPS elementary schools and several central office departments came together to revise our K-5 report cards. Guided by family feedback, this team worked to ensure that our report cards are:
Clear and meaningful for families;
User-friendly for educators;
Aligned with Oregon standards; and,
Differentiated to represent the needs of all of our student populations.
The team felt strongly that the revised report cards should be accompanied by a Family Report Card Guide --so that families and educators can be well-supported in their use of these important communication tools. We welcome your feedback and suggestions regarding this resource by emailing K5academics@pps.net.
LLEWELLYN TEACHERS WILL BE SENDING HOME REPORT CARDS ON 11/13 (subject to change!)
Resources for Educators & Families on the events in Israel & Gaza
Similar to the crisis in Ukraine, the effects of the attack and response in Israel & Gaza will be far-reaching. Images of terrorist violence against children, dead bodies, gun battles, missile strikes, and destroyed cars and buildings on the news and social media can cause psychological distress among students and adults. The Oregon Department of Education has gathered resources to support Educators and Families in discussing this critical issue.
