KAHFOOTY is our social skill of the week.

Patriot Skills: Patriots, each week we are going to highlight an important skill that will help us be successful in and out of the classroom.

The skill for this week is KAHFOOTY. KAHFOOTY is an acronym that stands for Keep All Hands, Feet, and Other Objects to Yourself. KAHFOOTY is an important way we respect the space of others and helps us stay safe by avoiding conflicts with our peers. Be responsible in all school settings at Nathan Hale by always practicing KAHFOOTY...Keep All Hands, Feet, and Other Objects to Yourself. It is the safe and respectful thing to do!

We are here to learn and focus on our academics. Be safe, responsible, respectful, and your best at all times!

Hi, my name is Derek Berg. I graduated from the University of Texas at San Antonio with a bachelors in exercise science. I found a passion for teaching through coaching baseball. I love to watch the Minnesota Vikings and hang out with family. My favorite food is pizza. I look forward to having your student in the gymnasium to develop lifelong skills in health and wellness.

This is my 6th year teaching for OPS. I was born and raised in Omaha, attending OPS and graduating from Burke High School. I received my Bachelor's Degree in K-6 Education with a STEM endorsement from UNO and went on to get my Early Childhood Endorsement at Creighton. Outside of work I spend my free time keeping my own kids busy. I am excited to be a part of the Nathan Hale team this year!

Greetings from the library! Nathan Hale's library staff, Mrs. Tetschner and Mr. Moriarty, are happy to see students checking out books. During the first few weeks of school, students have had the opportunity to visit the library with their English/Language Arts teachers. After a quick welcome and orientation, the students browsed the shelves and selected reading materials. These library visits to check out will continue throughout the school year as "self-selection" and "reading for fun" are two important strategies for reading improvement.

Mrs. Ridgley and her students had VIP passes to attend "Barnes and Noble Day" in the library. Students pretended to be visiting a bookstore such as Barnes and Noble as they rotated through different stations. The stations included (1) browsing the shelves and reading (2) reading magazines on Sora (3) playing board games and (4) being creative in the Makerspace with bookmark design, blackout poetry, and short story writing. After a trip to the "cafe," Patriot JaMelle Ray, Jr. said that the water infused with orange slices was "top tier."

Congratulations to Nathan Hale's Ava Channel! She met the school's Summer Reading Challenge by reading her way to a bingo. Ava kept those pages turning, and we are proud of her.

September is Attendance Awareness Month. Help us Strive for 95! Attendance is an important contributing factor of student achievement. It is important for students to attend and engage in school in order to be successful. Every minute counts and we appreciate your support with getting students to school on time each day. We are working hard to provide high quality learning experiences to make sure every student, every day, is prepared for success.

The bulletin boards and display cases in Nathan Hale's hallways are decked out with a National Parks theme as a way to welcome the students to the 2023 - 2024 school year. The National Park Service manages more than 400 units across the world --- everything from the famous national parks to national battlefields, national historical sites, and even national lakeshores. It has been fun to consider the "places we can go" thanks to the National Park Service's efforts to preserve our nation's beautiful natural spaces. Science teacher, Ms. McCormick has been to 16 of the 63 national parks. Impressive!

It's already that time for first quarter progress reports to come out. Q1 progress grades will be posted Tuesday, September 12th. Progress reports can be accessed through the Infinite Campus parent portal. Your student can also access his/her grades through the Infinite Campus Student Portal app on the iPad.

The parent portal is a resource for parents and guardians to access their student's records including attendance, grades and missing assignments. The application allows parents and guardians to access information about ALL of their students through one convenient website.

This is a great way for you to see what assignments your students have turned in and not turned in yet. You will also be able to see the specific grade your student earned for the assignment once the teacher has entered the grade for it.
