Message from Principal Nicole Pease
Hello everyone, what a wild and wonderful couple of weeks at DCS! Last week Jeannie Connolly came to work with many of our classrooms to create tremendous works of art. Thanks to our PTO for supporting this exciting day! As if that was not excitement enough, the foundation for the pavillion was poured. Students and staff enjoyed watching all the activity! Amazingly, Cornucopia worked around all this, as did the Harris Center. What a bustling time of year!
This week brought Eyes on Owls to DCS Friday morning, and it was quite a hoot! Students were so respectful of the presentation! They got to meet 2 Screech Owls, a Saw Whet owl, a great Horned Owl, and a Snowy Owl. Thanks again to our PTO for supporting this wonderful opportunity! In addition, we held our annual Halloween Prade up to Yankee parking lot. After last year's parade in the snow, and the year before with the rain, this was a real "treat!" Thanks to all our community members who came out to watch the parade, help us cross Route 101 safely, and to provide us with some treats as well! Students also had a scarecrow scavenger hunt (thanks Mrs. Fletcher). We also held our October Whole School Assembly!
Whew, everyone will sleep well this weekend! Take care, Nicole

Fun in First Grade with Mrs. Lang
First graders have been learning about equivalent expressions (1+7 = 4+4) and using the words “is the same as” when they see the equal sign. We also started learning about the relationship between addition and subtraction. We wrapped up our study of patterns in nature with a fun moon phases arts integration project. In language arts we’re learning about what makes a super sentence- capital, spaces between words, punctuation, subject and predicate. As the year progresses, we’ll add more components to make a more detailed sentence. Thank you for the Halloween donations! What a fun day!

Thrilling 3rd and 4th Grade with Mrs. Quinn
Math – 3rd – We are exploring multiplication and division through models, skip counting and fact families. 4th – Using area and perimeter, we are beginning to work with double digit numbers in multiplication.
ELA – All groups are discussing the plot (problem & solution) and sequence of text. We are stressing the main idea and details in WIN and writing.
Spelling – plurals with -s and -es
Science – Our study of waves continues as we look at light and the function of the eye.

DCS Gear
For those that do not know, the DCS' mascot is a Raven. We are hoping to be able to provide our new students with Raven t-shirts. Until then, we have a DCS Gear store through which you can order items for your child and family.
Please remember to update Pick Up Patrol
One of the aspects of a new school year that can be challenging is the bus routes. It takes time for new drivers and students to get used to the timing of the pick ups and drop offs. Each day has gone a bit more smoothly.
Please help us by updating any changes in drop off or pick up through Pick Up Patrol.
Thank you!
