REMINDER: Next week is April Vacation!
Travel Update - Spring 2021
Dear Staff and Families,
April vacation is approaching, making this an excellent time to discuss the recent changes to the Massachusetts Travel Order. Please review the updated travel protocol information in consideration of any travel that you have planned.
Effective March 22, 2021, as part of the state’s gradual re-opening of the economy, the travel order has transitioned from a mandated travel rule to an advisory. All visitors and returning residents are advised to quarantine for ten days upon arrival to Massachusetts. Travelers in the following categories are exempt from this quarantine advisory.
Travelers who have received a negative COVID-19 result on a test administered not more than 72 hours prior to their arrival in Massachusetts. Travelers may also test out of the quarantine advisory after arrival in Massachusetts, as long as they quarantine until receiving a negative test result.
Anyone who is entering Massachusetts for fewer than 24 hours
Anyone who is returning to Massachusetts after being out of the State for fewer than 24 hours
Workers who enter Massachusetts to perform critical infrastructure functions (as specified by the Federal Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency) during required commuting to or from work and while at work.
Travelers who are fully vaccinated (i.e. who have received two doses of either the Moderna or Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines OR who have received a single dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, 14 days or more ago) and who do not have symptoms.
All travelers are encouraged to consult and follow the CDC’s guidelines and requirements for travel.
International Travel Rules: The Centers for Disease Control requires that all air passengers coming to the United States, including U.S. citizens and fully vaccinated travelers, have a negative COVID-19 test result no more than three days before travel, or documentation of recovery from COVID-19 in the past three months before they board a flight to the United States.
Based on the above information, the Monomoy Regional School District does not require proof of a negative COVID-19 test to attend school/work following travel. Please be advised that traveling does remain a risk for contracting the COVID-19 virus. Certain travel situations put you or your family at a higher risk for getting COVID-19. Your school nurse is available to clarify and provide guidance regarding travel and how to protect yourself and your family from contracting COVID-19. We also strongly recommend that you follow the guidelines in the MA travel advisory https://www.mass.gov/info-details/covid-19-travel-advisory and the CDC Travel Recommendations and Requirements for international travel. https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/travelers/index.html. Please refer to both of these sources before travel to ensure you have the most up-to-date information.
Thank you all for continuing to help keep our school community healthy, and we wish you safe travels and a restful April vacation break.

Also, special thanks to Adam Legg and Tommy Clarke for officiating, Larry Souza for running the clock, and the ever-dependable Mary Hemeon for helping to supervise. -Ms. Jen Police

Social Change Movements: LGBTQ
Students in Mr. Brown's Distance Learning Seminar have been making timelines illustrating social change movements. 8th grader Emersin Adamsons researched the one you see here. It shows some advances made toward equality for members of the LGBTQ community. But here's a news flash: While Massachusetts was the first state to legalize marriage for gay couples, true equality for LGBTQ people is a long way away!
In many states, for instance, it is still legal to deny housing to gays and transgender people. Florida is one of 27 states that have no law protecting LGBTQ people from discrimination in employment, housing, and public accommodations. To make a fairer future possible, the House of Representatives has passed a bill, H.R. 5, which " prohibits discrimination based on sex, sexual orientation, and gender identity in areas including public accommodations and facilities, education, federal funding, employment, housing, credit, and the jury system." If this bill passes the Senate, it will be a major step toward justice for your gay, trans and bisexual relatives, neighbors, and friends.

Football Highlights
Saturday, April 10th at Martha’s Vineyard
Monomoy 7 | Martha’s Vineyard 35
At the end of the half, the score was 7-14. This game was definitely winnable. Early on we were all playing our best football. Our early touchdown set the tone for the rest of the game. Our defense in the first half was outstanding. Shoutout Miles Boyle for setting the tone on defense. We continued to drive down the field with hard running. In the fourth quarter, a few players got hurt and we lost our momentum but we never gave up. As a team, we are building and feeding off this game. We are now training for the Friday night lights game against Sandwich High school. - Tyler Potter
