Voices and Votes: Democracy in America
Voices and Votes will be at Atlantic Cape Community College July 11-August 14, Monday-Thursdays 10 am to 7 pm, Fridays-Saturdays 10 am-2 pm, and Sundays closed.
When American revolutionaries waged a war for independence they took a leap of faith that sent ripple effects across generations. They embraced a radical idea of establishing a government that entrusted the power of the nation not in a monarchy, but in its citizens. That great leap sparked questions that continue to impact Americans: who has the right to vote, what are the freedoms and responsibilities of citizens, and whose voices will be heard? Voices and Votes: Democracy in America will be a springboard for discussions about those very questions and how they are reflected in local stories.
Voices and Votes is based on a major exhibition currently on display at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History. This Museum on Main Street adaptation will have many of the same dynamic features: historical and contemporary photos; educational and archival video; engaging multimedia interactives with short games and additional footage, photos, and information; and historical objects like campaign souvenirs, voter memorabilia, and protest material.

The UU community is dear to us, thanks to the UU's financial support, since last May when we opened the ConVivir Wellness Hub, we have been offering free counseling, free art programs, ESL classes, Computer classes, Parenting Skills programs, Workforce Development programs, etc.
We hope the UU community can continue to support our efforts. The individuals we serve with your financial support, are traditionally defined by what they lack of, or their impairments. people labeled as Poor, Undocumented, Deaf, children with developmental disabilities, with mental and emotional disturbances or with disruptive behaviors. We care about them because we know that in fact these people have both: limitations and strengths Our services restore their sense of personal agency, safety, and self-worth. Our programs help them develop relevant skills and knowledge, access to resources to fulfill their basic needs, and opportunities to develop meaningful relationships and contribute their talents.
Please consider joining us as we meet old and new friends in person for delicious appetizers, music, dancing, and a special announcement about Con-Vivir!
Erik Estrada, Community Manager at the Community Foundation of South Jersey, and Cassie Iacovelli, Executive Director at MainStreet Hammonton, will be honored as "Inclusion Pathfinders" for their work opening the way for diverse voices and leadership in our communities and creating inclusive communities in South Jersey.

Notes From the Board
UU FaithAction has 5 Task Forces aligned around our legislative priorities. Each fall, these Task Forces convene to determine where their efforts will be focused for the following legislative year.
- Environment – As Unitarian Universalists we are called upon to affirm and promote ‘respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part.
- Reproductive Justice – UU FaithAction, representing the Unitarian Universalist congregations in New Jersey, stands together in faith to demand a system that provides adequate health care and treatment for all, including reproductive justice for all women.
- Immigration Reform – UU FaithAction supports our immigrant neighbors.
- Gun Violence Prevention – The need for the enactment of common sense gun legislation has never been clearer.
- Criminal Justice Reform – Mass incarceration and the deprivation of human civil rights are disproportionately focused on people of color.
Anyone interested in any of the task forces listed above is asked to reach out to Janet Longo who is our congregation liaison to Faith Action Network. Meetings will be resuming in September and our congregants who are members of the different task forces will be meeting monthly or bi monthly after Sunday services to bring us up to date on what is happening on the different task forces.
Our Home School Co Op committee had a meeting this week to discuss the contract for them to use our building one day a week for the next school year. The Board will learn more about this at our meeting this Thursday.
Please save the date: Saturday November 12th will be our annual auction. You will hear more about this in the coming months but wanted to get the date out to everyone as early as possible. This is our big fundraiser of the year and we look forward to everyone’s support.

Call to Action
Clothing Donations
Place your clean contributions in the brown bin in the foyer, under the Social Justice table to the left!!
Blessing Bags
This summer the children and youth in our Children's RE program are exploring service to others. Our first principle asks us to treat each person with dignity and respect. We are going to make ziploc bags of things people who are unhoused might need, such as a toothbrush, deodorant, even a snack to keep them going. But we need help collecting all the items.
Please review the sign up link below and help us make this project a reality!
Short on time? Don't know exactly what to get? You can also order directly from our Amazon Wish List!
Donations can be brought in to UUCSJS through August 21st.
Flowers for the Chalice Table
Please schedule with Colby to donate flowers to be shared from our chalice table. You're welcome to take the arrangement home or we can find a new home!
Contact Colby Tippins call/text: 609-442-0967.

We Are All Wounded Healers
Guest Minister, Rev. Kim D. Wilson
We don’t get to live life without experiencing any pain — it’s a part of the human condition. Henri Nouen, author of a little book called Wounded Healers, suggests that by finding and addressing the suffering in our own hearts, we become better able to help others to heal their hurts. In this way, we can all become wounded healers.
About Kim: A lifelong UU, Rev. Kim was ordained in 2001, and she served the UU congregation in Madison, CT for 6 years. She recently retired after serving the UU Fellowship of the Poconos in Stroudsburg for the past decade. Rev. Kim recently bought a house in Emmaus, PA and has been spending her time updating the interior and planting and tending its gardens. Rev. Kim also enjoys yoga, hiking, traveling in her camper and spending time with family.
PLEASE NOTE: This service will be in person at UUCSJS and streamed live on our Facebook page. A recording will be available later in the day on our YouTube Channel.
*Masks are currently optional at UUCSJS.
