From the Principal
Greetings Colt Families,
I am both humbled and excited to introduce myself as the new principal of Crabapple Crossing Elementary School. I began my career after earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Special Education from Georgia College in Milledgeville, Georgia. As an original “Georgia Peach”, I spent my educational years teaching special education in grades K-8 in various school settings from rural to suburban Georgia. To continue my pursuit of education, I earned a Master of Education and a Specialist in Education from Georgia College and a Doctor of Philosophy from Mercer University.
I joined Fulton County Schools in 1999, serving as a special education teacher at Woodland Charter Elementary for 2 years, and then as an assistant principal at Love Nolan Elementary in College Park, Birmingham Falls Elementary in Milton and most recently Northview High School in Johns Creek. As an instructional leader who is passionate about curriculum and increasing academic achievement, I believe a great teacher can have a lifelong impact on every student with the proper support and coaching.
I am excited to work with the CCES Family by continuing to create a shared fundamental belief of success for all. I am inspired by the work and dedication of our students, teachers, and families. At Crabapple Crossing, we value each individual, believe in teamwork and cultivate lifelong learners through the united partnership of dedicated staff, empowered students, supportive parents and an engaged community. As educators, we have the incredible responsibility and opportunity of not just teaching our children but also to make a positive impact in their lives. I believe in teaching the whole child. This means it is our responsibility to teach and to meet the needs of every child instructionally, socially, and emotionally.
As your principal, I promise to keep students at the forefront of every decision we make as a school. I believe deeply that the school and home must work hand in hand to help the students grow to their fullest potential. Therefore, frequent and open communication between the two is critical and will be a high priority at Crabapple Crossing Elementary. I take great pride in being a CCES Colt!
Sincerely,
Dr. Cheatham
Check-outs for Friday, 12/20
Due to the high volume of checkouts on Holiday breaks, we will be changing the last checkout time on Friday, 12/20, to 1:30 pm. This will allow our staff time to process the large number of early dismissals. If you are planning to leave early for your holiday travels, please plan to checkout your child before 1:30 pm. Thanks for your understanding!

Holiday Cards requested!
December is the most wonderful time of the year because we love to receive so many holiday cards from our Colt families & schools around the district. Our entire staff loves seeing what our families send in as we put them on a board in the office. We hope you can spare a card for display but most importantly, we hope you have a memorable holiday season.
Gift Card Collection for Foster teens
Teens in foster care are often forgotten during the holiday season. The student ambassadors are collecting gift cards in the amount of $5-$20 to help fill this gap. Any and all donations would be greatly appreciated. Please send in gift card donations to your child's homeroom teacher from now until December 9th. Thank you for your support!
Lost and Found Overflowing!
Is your child missing jackets, lunch boxes, or other articles? If so, please stop by to check the CCES lost and found located in the hallway just outside the gym. Any items not claimed by the last day of the semester, 12/20/19, will be donated to charity. Thank you!
Save the CCES Science Lab!
Hi CCES Parents!
Our amazing science lab facilitators, Becky Jones and Christine Nix, are graduating to middle school at the end of this school year, and CCES needs your help to continue offering this excellent resource to our students!
My name is Lindsay Walls, and I have volunteered to take over the administrative duties of the CCES science lab going forward! I am a former Fulton County teacher, a tutor, and mom to three kids who will keep me at Crabapple Crossing until the year 2030! My goal is to make sure your kids have the opportunity to experience all that our science lab has to offer, but I need your help to make that happen!
What does the CCES science lab offer?
· 3 different lab activities per year for every class in the school
· hands on small group science instruction
· multi-sensory exposure to science concepts that align with grade level specific Georgia science standards
· the opportunity for students to interact with scientific instruments and materials purchased for our lab by PTO and Glo For It funds
· a chance for you to participate in your child's learning
Sooooo...what do we need from you? to keep the science lab up and running for your child's grade level next year?
We are looking for parents to take on the job of running one grade level of labs for the 2020-2021 school year. We will need a leader or group of leaders for each of our six grade levels.
Grade Level lab volunteers will be in charge of running three grade specific labs each school year. Each lab schedule includes a parent training and usually six class lab visits (depending on the number of classes in the grade level). This volunteer position is roughly a 12 school day commitment, however, we can consider splitting those twelve days between multiple volunteers at each grade level if needed.
Grade level volunteers will facilitate the labs the way that Becky and Christine do now. This may include managing materials as they are used throughout the lab, running the station timer, setting up videos when needed, and filling in when there are not enough volunteers. Our top priority is getting our students in to the lab to enjoy this great resource that is already available to us. We don't want all the great lessons and materials we have to sit on a shelf gathering dust in the lab closet!
Interested? Even just a little....???
Please read the attachment for more detailed information, and join us for an informational meeting Tuesday, January 21st @ 9:30am to learn more about how we can SAVE THE SCIENCE LAB!!! If you have questions that are not answered in the attachment or you want to put your name in as a volunteer for next year, feel free to email me at linzowalls@gmail.com.
Hope to see you in January!
