Student of the Month for Respect
Respect is seeing value in all people and things & treating them with care. We have an amazing group of students here at Sewell. Below are students nominated by their teacher, for Student of the Month for Respect.
Ms. Barraza's class: We are extremely proud to announce Israel as our classroom nominee for Character Strong ‘Respect.” First, Israel’s approach with classmates and adults is kind, respectful, and always with a big smile. Second, he has the ability to make and keep friends due to his respectful nature and care for others. Third, his positive attitude and friendliness is so enduring. Congratulations, Israel.
Ms. Hanson's class: Jacob is always respectful with teacher and friends.
Mrs. Alvarado-Wells' class: Annalee communicates with her classmates and adults with kindness. She respectfully listens to their thoughts and communicates her thoughts. Annalee also shows respect to nature by leaving nature in nature.
Ms. Dolan's class: Chyla sets a good example of respect by listening to what people say, asking questions that show her interest, and giving kind feedback. She takes good care of equipment, cleans up, and lets someone know if there is a problem. Chyla also respects herself, sharing her opinions and knowledge in a thoughtful and fun way.
Ms. Ioannou's class: Christopher shows respect by being polite to all of his classmates and adults, as well as letting others go first, being helpful, sharing with others, and using kind words.
Ms. Mendoza's class: Amiyah is always respectful by being patient, raising her hand, and using kind words to speak with her classmates. She is respectful to teachers, students and her school.
Ms. Petrino's class: Avyana is respectful to both teachers and students. She follows the Golden Rule and treats others the way she wants to be treated. She is a model student and can always be counted on to be respectful to those around her. Thank you for being such a wonderful example of what it means to show respect every day.
Ms. Bonsall's class: Daviel treats everyone he knows and meets with Kindness and is accepting of everyone. Daviel specifically shows respect by being a good listener. Daviel pays close attention to fellow students and to the teachers. In all interactions with others, Daviel exhibits the positive effects of good manners …. and, is polite to others individually or in groups. Also, Daviel distinguishes himself by always being prepared to lend a helping hand to others.
Ms. Ryan's class: Patrick always shows respect towards his peers and staff. He is a good listener; he is kind with his actions and words towards others. He doesn't ridicule or tease others and is always sensitive to others' feelings.
Spirit Week: October 14-18

Daughters of the American Revolution
The Daughters of the American Revolution has entered a partnership with Sewell Elementary School. The Daughters of the American Revolution is a nonpolitical, nonprofit, worldwide service organization focused on historic preservation, education and patriotism. They are committed to working with the Sewell community over the next couple of years. They have already donated underwear and socks to our health office to support students in need. We thank you for all your support and we look forward to this new partnership.
OMA: Opening Minds through the Arts
OMA Fun in October
- We have been celebrating Hispanic Heritage with beautiful Hispanic Folk Art Tissue flowers and flowerpot drawings. They have all turned out beautiful. Students have learned songs: Los Pollitos, La Raspa with dance and Ru Ru Lullaby.
- After fall break, we will be starting a storytelling unit, fall crafts as well as preparing pieces for our Sewell winter concert. This concert is Wednesday, Dec. 4 at 5pm outside in our courtyard.
- Permission slips will be going home soon for a couple of things. Third graders have almost reached white belt status which means they will be allowed to take recorders home to practice, but it must come back for class. There will also be permission slips for Dec. 19 Beauty and the Beast field trip presented by Arts Express for 3rd-5th grades.
- After-school Sewell choir is sounding amazing. They have gotten many compliments from teachers.

Cross Country Meet Schedule

Nov 7: DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIP: Palo Verde High School, 4:00 pm
Jesse Owens Meet Information
· Please arrive at the park by 3:15 so that students can warm up, stretch, and get a name tag.
· We will walk the course at 3:30 p.m.
· The first race will begin at 4:00 p.m.
· Race order for this meet: 4th & 5th grade boys and girls, K & 1st grade boys and girls, 2nd & 3rd grade boys and girls.
· Boys and girls race together and finish in different chutes. There are signs and people directing kids to finish in the correct chute.
· Cross country meets usually last until about 5:30 – 5:45 p.m.
· Ribbons will be handed out to the top 10 boys, top 10 girls from each grade-level race, after all races are done.
· Sewell team shirts will be handed out on Monday, October 14, during the school day. Students can wear a shirt underneath if needed. These shirts will have to be turned in at the end of the season.
· Please make sure students wear tennis shoes and comfortable running shorts, leggings, or sweats for the race.

Volunteering at Sewell
We are looking for parent volunteers to support in our classroom by supporting students and the teacher. You can help in our garden, the library, during lunch recess, or support a classroom field trip. Your help is needed and greatly appreciated it takes all of us working together to "Inspire and Empower our Students for Success." Please sign up to volunteer with us today!!
Inclusive Preschool Program: Open Seats 2024-25 school year
Your child will enjoy meaningful friendships and increase their social interaction. They will have peer role models for academic, social and behavior skills. This prepares them for adult life in an inclusive, diverse society. We know students achieve more in place of learning where every student's needs are supported by an inclusive community. Their teacher is early childhood certified, and we keep small class sizes for high-quality experiences for your child.

- must be three by August 31

- 2½ hours daily
- Morning OR afternoon session
- Classes held Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday
Before/After School Registration
Our Before- and After School Programs offer a safe and fun place for children before school, after school, on breaks, and during the summer. Our programs engage students in various activities that include arts and crafts, indoor/outdoor games, cooking, homework help, explore through field trips, and more! Our Before- and After-School programs are licensed by the Arizona Department of Health Services and accept DES.

Before School $44.10 weekly (7:00 am - 8:00 am)
After School $81.90 weekly (after school - 6:00 pm)
Before/After School $94.50 weekly

Attendance or Tardy Reporting
If your child will be absent on any given day for any reason, please call our attendance line, 520-584-7200. You can also report absences and tardies through ParentVue, see pdf document below.
If your child is tardy to school, they will need to be checked-in, by a parent, in the front office before going to class.
Excellent attendance is a high priority at Sewell. Missing school can be detrimental to your child's progress. When a child is absent from school, they will need to make-up missing assignments. Please contact your child's teacher via email for make-up work.
