WHERE ARE WE? SURVEY #2
Thank you for your responses last week. We are continuing to conducting a self-assessment using a rubric developed by the Arkansas Leadership Academy. We have chosen to do this self-assessment as a whole staff in order to insure that all voices are heard. To minimize the time commitment, we have broken it into five short (3-5 question) surveys over the next five weeks. Each question asks for a 1-5 rating based on criteria at each end of the performance spectrum, and each rating has an attached area to provide evidence. This evidence would be any tangible examples that informed your rating. You may have one or two, or you may have ten. Please take the time to give this survey thought and attention. Your answers and examples will help us move forward as a school. As always, thank you for your time and input. Please click on the link below and answer questions for me.

Columbus and Lindberg: A Journey Across the Atlantic
An excerpt from her essay,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
The main cause of the differences between the two journeys was the roughly 400 year gap between them. This gap resulted in a tremendous difference in available technology. Columbus merely had access to wooden ships and plain metal devices of the time, such as the previously mentioned quadrant and astrolabe. Columbus also had no foreknowledge about what he was heading into, and he had no map to guide him. By Lindbergh’s time, however, advances in technology led to the invention of planes, as well as enhanced navigation instruments. Lindbergh also knew how wide the Atlantic was and knew the direction he needed to travel. Because the only way of getting across the Atlantic in Columbus’s time was sailing, his voyage was much longer than Lindbergh’s. This is also the main reason why Columbus was more in danger of running out of food and water, while Lindbergh was more in danger of falling asleep-- falling asleep while flying an airplane is typically more dangerous than falling asleep at sea with an able-bodied crew. The four hundred year gap was what caused the main differences between the two voyages, but the essence of the two journeys was the same.
Despite the 400 years between the journeys of Columbus and Lindbergh across the Atlantic, they had many similarities and differences between their hopes, challenges, and skills necessary for success.

Bowl-a-thon for Muscular Dystrophy
Our annual bowl-a-thon is an exciting time of competition between individuals. This year DECA is extending an invitation to the staff at AHS. Students who are participating will ask a staff member to bowl. Each person will pay $20.00, which includes 2 games of bowling and shoe rental. The remainder of the money will be donated to Muscular Dystrophy.
Students will compete against staff for bragging rights and medals will be awarded to the top male and female bowler. A trophy will be displayed with either the word students or teachers, based on the highest point total. Remember this is a friendly competition to raise money for Muscular Dystrophy.
Why participate?
· This provides an opportunity to develop positive relationships between students and staff.
· This provides funds to support the state and national civic consciousness activity.
· This assists in receiving recognition through Arkansas DECA and DECA, Inc.
· This provides a sense of competition and school pride.
Lanes will be assigned upon arrival, so if you would like to bowl with someone please write his/her name on this sheet. All money should be turned in by 3:45 Friday, March 4 to Mrs. Teresa Heflin in Room 302. Checks are made payable to AHS DECA.
