Teaching & Learning
French Students see Les Miserables
Members of Mrs. Chouinard's French classes went to see Les Miserables at the Wharton Center on the campus of Michigan State University on Sunday, October 13th.
Les Miserables is a novel by French author Victor Hugo, published in 1862. The story follows several characters through early- to mid-19th century France as they seek redemption for their sins and an escape from poverty.
Victor Hugo uses Les Misérables to deliver critiques of wealth distribution, the justice system, industrialism, and republicanism.
IB French & Spanish Students Traveled to the Detroit Institute of Arts - October 16th
Members of IB Spanish and IB French classes took a field trip to the Detroit Institute of Arts on October 16th. For the Spanish students, in celebration of Dia de Muertos, got a chance to explore a community exhibition of ofrenda altars. In Mexico, and other Latin American countries, the Day of the Dead is the time of the year to celebrate the lives of close relatives, friends or community members who have passed away.
Objects important to lost loved ones, such as favorites foods, drinks, mementos and pictures, are collected and incorporated into elaborate displays that include pan de muerto (bread of the dead), sugar skulls, candles, flowers, papel picado (paper cutouts) and other decorations.
IB French students were also able to view French Art and were part of a Goosechase hunt across the museum to document 1) their favorite piece of art, 2) the oldest piece of art, 3) etc.

Positivity Project (aka P2) Theme of the Week - Integrity
This week, our school will focus on the character strength of Integrity. Integrity means being honest, truthful, and genuine.
Integrity is doing the right thing even when no one is watching. People with integrity tell the truth and align their thoughts, feelings, and actions. They have the courage to stick to their beliefs, even if it means not following the crowd. Integrity is closely related to honesty and authenticity.
Integrity is essential for personal growth and well-being. When your thoughts, feelings, and actions are in harmony, you can grow and achieve your goals. Being authentic and genuine makes you more likable and trusted by others, improving your relationships.
To practice and encourage the character strength of integrity at home, please visit the Positivity Project’s mobile-friendly P2 for Families. There, you can watch a video, read a quote, and discuss three questions together.
Thank you for your continued support!

FHS Office Procedures
Reminder to Call In Absences (By Noon the Day After An Absence)
Parents:
We know you get busy, but at the high school level, students who accumulate over 10 days of absences during a semester, especially when those absences are unexcused, have to appeal for their credit at the end of the semester.
Please don't put yourself and your child in that situation. Be sure to call when they are out absent or by noon the next day (after you receive the robocall to remind you).
Thanks.

Voting Information
In 2023, Governor Whitmer signed House Bill 4569 into law, which allows future Michigan voters to pre-register to vote when they turn 16 years old. This pre-registration enables eligible voters to vote as soon as they turn 18. To use this pre-registration process, a person must be at least 16 years old but not older than 17 and-a-half years old. If you pre-register, you can participate in early in-person or absentee voting for an election as long as you will be 18 on or before the date of the election. Those eligible to vote who are already older than 17.5 years old, were previously allowed to register under MI law.

A major focus of the site is on helping high school students plan their future beyond graduation, and to help guide them through important decisions on how to get there.
A toolkit that contains sample content, graphics, and promotional materials has been developed to assist educators with sharing information about the Beyond Graduation website in their schools and community.
