This Week In Redhawks Athletics
What is the Redhawk Rundown?
This is a Newsletter that both the Athletic Director, Henry Stevens, and Dean Cordeiro '25 will be sending out each week. It is where you can get all the information you need on what is going on in the Barnstable High School Athletic Program. If you have any ideas about what we can add to this newsletter, then please do not hesitate to reach out to either of us.

5 Good Things
- Throughout the beginning of the fall season, I have had numerous coaches come to me to talk about how excited they have been to be back. The athletes have showed up every day ready to take on whatever challenge may present itself. Congratulations to all of our student athletes to a great start to the season.
- Unified Basketball best Martha's Vineyard, 59-52 in a great back and forth game. This was such an exciting win for the team. On OCTOBER 15th, Unified Basketball will host Falmouth for their senior night. Please come and support all of our student athletes. The game will start at 3:30 pm.
- Registration will open for winter sports on OCTOBER 15th. If you have any questions about what sports we offer in the winter, then please stop by my office and ask either myself or Ms. Egan.
- I wanted to thank our Athletic Trainer, Keith Chagaris, and our EMT Kate LaPlume for all that they do for our athletes. Every day after school, I see Keith working on getting dozens of our athletes ready for practices or games. Thank you!
- This is my first fall at BHS and I have loved getting to know the athletes throughout the day and seeing them at practice or games. If you have time, stop by my office and introduce yourself and let me know a "WIN" that you have had this season or something you are excited about for this year.
Football Game on Thursday
The Football game on Thursday will now be at 7 pm. The Redhawks will take on Bishop Hendricken from Rhode Island. Tickets for the game can be purchased on GoFan. BHS students get in free with a student ID.
Coops
This winter, BHS will be the host schools for a few coops with other schools on the Cape. A coop is when a host school (Barnstable) competes as one team with students from another school. The MIAA states that "In an effort to increase participation with interscholastic athletics, various positive factors motivated schools to create ways of saving existing programs and of establishing new ones. The initial purpose of cooperative teams was to combine the participation of multiple schools to build and develop athletic opportunities for students."
The coops that we will be participating in are as follows:
- Girls Ice Hockey will be in a coop with Upper Cape Tech and Cape Cod Tech. If you have any questions, then please reach out to me.
- Girls Swimming will be in a coop with SJPII and CCA. Ellen Gage is the head coach for this team. She is also our assistant Unified Basketball Coach.
- Boys Swimming will be in a coop with SJPII. Kate LaPlume is the head coach. She is a math teacher here at BHS, as well as the EMT at many of our games.
- The Gymnastics coop has added Sandwich to the coop and will be head coached by Shailey Pires. The other schools in the coop are Falmouth and Mashpee.
If you have any questions about this, then please reach out to me via email or stop by my office.
Pictures
We would love to include pictures in this newsletter. If you get pictures from the games that you would like shared each week, then please send them to stevens_henry@mybps.us.
