PICTURE DAY 📸
This year, we have utilized the services of a different photography company. This company does a lot of the diocesan schools in our area and we are very much looking forward to Picture Day.
With that, we are doing something a little different this year.
Thursday, October 3
1. Individual Pictures
2. Class Pictures.
We want our students to have a DRESS UP Day that day. We have had a few dress down days, so we are hoping a "Dress Up" day would be handled. We are looking for kids to wear dresses, ties, jackets, etc. IF THEY SO CHOOSE. PLEASE DO NOT GO AND BUY A BRAND NEW SET OF CLOTHES; if you want to stay in school uniform, that is completely fine.
Parents do not need to bring in money on October 3. Proofs will be emailed to you, and you can choose to order pictures on-line.
Just so you are aware, Wednesday, November 6 will be Picture Retake Day with Sports pictures as well. We will have that day as a DRESS DOWN DAY.
ST. FRANCIS OF ASSISI
🐶BLESSING OF THE PETS🐷 ALL ANIMALS WELCOMED
Mass will be celebrated on Friday, October 4. This is also the feast of St. Francis of Assisi. The plan will be to have Mass outside in front of the entrance to the Parish Hall on the south side.
Some notes to know:
1. Families who are bringing pets for blessing; please park in our regular school parking lot. The blessing will take place around the flagpole.
2. For those who are attending Mass, you may park in our school parking lot as well. Handicapped spots in the back of the church are still available for those who need it. As we continue to work out logistics, we are thinking that you will not have to walk far to attend the outdoor Mass.
3. We plan on the Blessing of Pets at approximately 8:00. After the Blessing, families who need to take their lovely animals home can leave afterwards. Mass will be immediately following.
Again, we are still working on a few logistics, but this is what we have planned for now. We will have more information next week.
If the weather does not cooperate, we will do a brief Blessing of Pets outside and then move to indoors for Mass.
PLEASE NOTE:
If you feel your pet acts strangely sometimes, FATHER MARK IS NOT AUTHORIZED BY THE VATICAN TO PERFORM PET EXORCISMS.
Newton's Laws🍎
Some 8th graders demonstrating their knowledge of Newton's Laws. There are 3 main laws. Do you remember them? (Answers at bottom of newsletter)
OUR PARKING LOT🚗
2 things needing to be mentioned about our Parking Lot.
1. We will be repainting our parking lot with some great ideas and activities (both new and old). Please look for that in the next month or so.
2. We wanted to send a HUGE THANK YOU to Kenny Kilian and The Kilian Corp as well as Matt Stukenberg and DMS Contracting. Both offered a lot of time and energy on the great work done. Again, thank you to both of them!
FOUND IN THE PARKING LOT
Speaking of the parking lot again, this was found in a parking space where parents typical drop off students for Before School Care. It looks to be a sleave padding for an armrest of a child's car seat.
SAVE THAT DATE!
A THANK YOU GOES OUT TO...😀
...all of the parents who were able to attend our 1st H.O.P.E. meeting of the year this past week. We had a fantastic turnout. We will continue to hold meetings and events throughout the year, so pay attention to the newsletters and to other communications home.
It should "go without saying" that your active involvement with your child's education is a major component to your child's growth and development. AND, we try to have fun in the process!
NATIONAL NIGHT OUT
GREAT VIDEO FOR EXECUTIVE FUNCTION FOR KIDS🧠
AND A GREAT VIDEO FOR MIDDLE SCHOOLERS...

FIELD TRIP 🚍
It look as though our PreK and K will have a great time next Friday as they will be heading to St. Louis Zoo for their first official Field Trip of the Year!
I had a very photogenic hippopotamus when I visited earlier this summer.
CROSS-CURRICULAR COLLABORATION!🤝
5th grade students were able to experience real world learning in their Typing class this week. They used their chromebooks to publish an ELA writing assignment from Mrs. Hill with the assistance of Mr. Patriquin during Typing class time.
IOWA TESTING NEXT WEEK💯
Next week will be the beginning of IOWA Assessments for grades 2 - 8. We use these assessments along with other testing to chart student progress, determine curriculum choices, etc. One of the advantages of a private education is we have the autonomy to determine which tests (and how many) we conduct here at HCS.
We should have the results back to you by the time of Parent/Teacher Conferences (October 23 & 24).
AGAIN, allow me to state that your child's education is a PROCESS. We want your children to be at their best academic level and have the most opportunities and choices available to them by the time they are graduating high school. Remember, the sooner they master the executive functioning skills (delayed gratification, planning, problem-solving, etc.), the better.
Because our testing window is 2 weeks, it would help our teachers to not have to take class time for makeup tests. Therefore, if at all possible, please do your best to make sure students attend school next week.
DRESS DOWN DAY THIS PAST WEEK!👕
Thanks to all of those who participated this past week. We raised over $170. Great job, everyone.
We will do this once a month AND with each month we will do a theme. We will post in newsletter and Facebook when the next dress down will be held!
PREK PARENTS...ALLOW ME TO ADD...
Throughout the year, we have events (like our Dress Down Day) where the events fall on a day in which your child is not present at school. Usually, Mrs. Cozzi or Mrs. Beck do an excellent job communicating with you that you will do your own version of the event the day you are present at school.
We want all children to enjoy our special days...it's sometimes just the "nature of the beast" and the schedule we have in place that we have to be flexible.
GO NOTRE DAME !!
Newton's Laws:
1. An object at rest tends to stay at rest. An object in motion tends to stay in motion.
2. F=mA (Force = mass x acceleration)
3. For every action on an object, there is an equal and opposite reaction.
