Mayo News
Dear Mayo Families,
As we close this wonderful school year, I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to all of you for making my first year as the new principal of Mayo Elementary such a memorable and successful experience. The warmth, kindness, and support from this community have been truly remarkable, and I am deeply thankful for each of you.
Our dedicated PTA has been incredible, playing a pivotal role in enhancing our students' educational journey. Thanks to their tireless efforts, we have provided enriching experiences and funded field trips that have broadened our students' horizons. The PTA's support has also enabled us to update our library collection, ensuring our students have access to a wide variety of books. The addition of inflatables to our Field Day was a highlight for many students, bringing joy and excitement to our end-of-year celebrations. I also want to thank the members who volunteered their time on the School Improvement Committee (SIMCO), working to make Mayo even better.
Thank you to the teachers and para-professionals, both new and those who have been here for years, who have worked tirelessly to ensure your children are loved, feel valued, and grow socially, academically, and emotionally. Our Kitchen Staff and Custodial Staff are top notch, and we are lucky to have them here. I am also immensely grateful to our exceptional teachers who have gone above and beyond by volunteering in various after-school clubs. The LEGO Club, Friendship Bracelets, Girls On The Run, and the Environment Club have all provided valuable opportunities for our students to explore new interests and build lasting friendships. Your dedication and enthusiasm have significantly impacted our students' lives. Additionally, our continued implementation of the Choose To Be Nice program has been a heartwarming success. It has been wonderful to see our students embody each word of the month, fostering a kinder and more respectful school environment. The positive changes and growth in our students' character have been truly inspiring.
A special thank you to Mr. DiBenedetto, our new Assistant Principal, whose contributions have been integral to our administrative team. His commitment to our school's success has been evident in every aspect of his work. Additionally, Mrs. Trefry, the first person our families see or hear, has been diligent in keeping us all organized. Her welcoming smile sets a wonderful tone for everyone who enters our school.
I am also deeply appreciative of you, the parents, who have been so kind and welcoming during my first year. Your constructive feedback and unwavering support have been invaluable in our efforts to make Mayo Elementary an even better place for our students to learn and grow.
As we look forward to the 2024-2025 school year, I am filled with hope and excitement. I am confident that with the continued support of our amazing families, dedicated staff, and wonderful students, we will continue to build on our progress and achieve even greater heights.
Thank you once again for a fantastic year. I wish you all a restful and enjoyable summer, and I look forward to welcoming everyone back in the fall.
Kindly,
Carolan Kasper

SUMMER READING
- The benefits of summer reading are clear. National research finds that students who participate in public library summer reading programs scored higher on reading achievement tests at the beginning of the next school year than those who did not participate.
- Studies show that children who are read to in the home and who use the library perform better in school and are more likely to continue to use the library as a source of lifetime learning.
- The amount of time children spend reading outside of school is linked to gains in reading achievement. Numerous studies show that access to books and magazines is directly related to higher reading achievement.
- As the research shows, any type of engagement with reading is beneficial for students. Let’s encourage the students in our lives to enjoy reading this summer!
