Noon Message to Families

Cedar Hill ISD Families & Community,
The STAAR Test is upon us. We prepare for it through the year, and our scholars are ready to put their best foot forward. Please encourage them to get as much rest as possible and not to be nervous. Their success throughout the school year while shine through on this exam. Let them know there will be fun days and field trips ahead, soon enough.
At Cedar Hill ISD, we go far beyond what's on the STAAR Test. Scholars graduate with a wide variety of knowledge that cannot simply be measured by a standardized exam.
But in a state with 1,200 public school districts, you need to have a method to see how scholars are progressing. It's just as important for staff, as it is for scholars. Each year, staff has the opportunity to continue with what's working and adapt where we can do better.
This is our moment, and I believe in each and every one of you!
Sincerely,
Dr. Gerald B. Hudson
Superintendent
Cedar Hill ISD
If your student is enrolled in CHISD on the last day of school in 2023 (May 26, 2023), then your student is categorized as a returning student. If your student attended CHISD during the 2021-2022 or any previous school year but transferred to another school outside of CHISD, they are new to the district.
Children who arrive at kindergarten prepared to learn perform better throughout school and complete more years of education and providing high quality early learning experiences – including pre-kindergarten – helps families prepare their children to achieve and succeed.

Brain development in the years prior to starting school builds the foundation for success in school, at work, and throughout life. When children arrive at kindergarten without a solid foundation of skills, they are likely to fall behind their classmates, and with each year it will become harder to catch up.
School readiness is a good predictor of long-term achievement. Research suggests that there are four key dimensions of readiness:
- Language and literacy: Children learn about language by listening to words. A growing vocabulary strengthens a child’s readiness for reading.
- Thinking skills: Children are natural scientists and their first experiments teach them about the world and help them get ready for math and science.
- Self-control: A child who is socialized to solve problems through words, take turns, and pay attention is ready to be a good classroom citizen.
- Self-confidence: Confident children are ready to learn. They follow their curiosity and are quick to recover from mistakes.
