Principal's Message
Dear OMS Families,
We are almost to the end of the year! There are only a couple weeks left in the school year. If you haven't checked yet, take a look at the Parent Portal to view your students' grades. At the end of the year, I review the F1 column to make decisions regarding summer school and possible retention. If your student is on watch for summer school or retention, a school counselor or administrator reached out to you earlier in the trimester to let you know. Our last day of the school year is Monday, June 17th.
We have a number of upcoming end of year events. There will be a Spring Dance next Friday, June 7th for Grade 6 (5:00-6:30pm) and Grade 7 (7:00-8:30pm). In Grade 8, there will be a Grade 8 Class Trip to go bowling on Thursday, June 13th. Grade 8 Class Day celebrations, Class Day Ceremony, and the Grade 8 Dance are on Friday, June 14th. Next week, an email will go out to Grade 8 families with more information about the Grade 8 Class Day Ceremony.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Katrina Crowley
Grade 8 Civics Project
All eighth graders recently completed the Gr. 8 spring civics project. Applying civic skills and dispositions, students practiced active citizenship by identifying and researching a local issue/need, contacting community outlets, proposing solutions, and presenting their findings with their class and/or local leaders. Student projects addressed topics including road and sidewalk safety, school safety, school lunches, mental health awareness, teen vaping, youth sports and activities, parks and fields, town beautification, the town theater, intergenerational programs, and a dog park in Stoughton.
A number of our eighth graders have reached out to Mrs. Crowley (OMS Principal), Dr. Baeta (Superintendent), Mr. Koppe (Director of Food Services), as well as other local officials to share their ideas and propose recommendations for their selected topic.
School Bus Registration for 2024-2025
Attention Stoughton Public Schools families looking for bus transportation for the 2024-2025 school year: The registration period for bus transportation for 2024-2025 will open Monday, May 20, 2024 and run through Friday, June 28, 2024. Please keep in mind that no applications will be accepted after June 28 and there will not be a waiting list.
Once again, there is no cost to families to ride the bus next year. Bus transportation is available for students in grades K-12, but there are limited seats. Students will be placed on the bus in the order the applications are received. The registration form will be available on the PowerSchool Parent Portal starting May 20. Families will need to complete and submit an application for each child who will be riding the bus.
An email will be sent to families next week with instructions on registration. If you have any questions, please send them to Transportation@stoughtonschools.org.
Stoughton Football Middle School Camp
Attention all OMS students interested in football! There will be a middle school football camp in June. See information below. You can reach out to Coach Evans at c_evans@stoughtonschools.org with any questions. Click below to register.
Grade 8 Class Day & Promotion Ceremony
The 8th Grade Class Day Promotion Ceremony will take place on Friday, June 14, 2024 at noon in the Stoughton High School auditorium. Because there is limited seating in the Stoughton High School auditorium, each 8th grader will receive two (2) tickets for in-person guests to the ceremony. The event will be livestreamed for other family members to watch live.
The 8th Grade Class Day Ceremony celebrates the successful completion of the middle school program. More specific details will follow next week!
