This Is How We Lakeview
July 2023 Edition: Volume 4
Latest Updates
Students had a blast today during our second Club Day session of the year. Make sure you check out the photos below of our students participating in the various clubs offered today.
This week, we want to celebrate our Students of the Month for October and make sure families are aware of the new guidelines for school districts based on Senate Bill 29, which recently became law. Please make sure you read the information below so you are up-to-date.
A reminder to families that we are selling academic planners for $1. We have already heard from students and families that they have found the physical planner very beneficial in helping everyone stay current on homework and deadlines. Have your child stop by the Main Office to pick up their planner!
Finally, don't forget about our Student Spotlight section! We enjoy highlighting as many students as we can in our newsletter, so if your child has done something recently that you want to celebrate -- or if you just want to give them a shoutout for being a great kid -- make sure you fill out the Family Feedback Form (linked in the Community Corner below) and provide information in the Student Spotlight section.

October Students of the Month
Congratulations to our October Students of the Month!
Each month at Lakeview, teachers nominate the students who are going above and beyond what is expected of them. These students show respect for themselves, others, and learning through Building Positive Relationships, Personal Discipline, and Being Better Today Than Yesterday! Congratulations to our October nominees: Myles Brickman, Angelena Darjee, Ivie Giles, Naima Hernandez, Parker Koch, Cai Moore, Carson Ramsdale, Abigail Small, Dinoy Yosief, and Talon Zahorujko.
Seeking Extra LEGOs
One of more popular clubs on Club Day recently has been the LEGOs club. If any families have any extra LEGOs that they don't use anymore, our LEGO club would love to take them off your hands!
Please reach out to ben_baptist@plsd.us if you would like to donate any LEGOs.
Senate Bill 29 - Student Privacy
Please see the attached document for more information regarding Senate Bill 29 and how PLSD is providing information to families.
Latest Updates from Visual Art
Our Visual Art students have been hard at work lately. Please see the presentation that Mrs. Broz-England put together that highlights our students' recent work.
PTO Updates
The annual Pickerington Education Foundation dinner is coming up, scheduled for November 9th this year. Our PTO creates a tree each year for the tree auction, and they are asking for your help! Please use the link below to support our PTO and tree by donating one of the items.
Please see the PayPal link below for a quick way to support our students and staff through the PTO. They are currently raising funds to help support dinners for staff during parent-teacher conferences, an upcoming Teen Night, and other events during the year that recognize student achievement.
Previous Information
New Horizons Mental Health Services
This school year, New Horizons Mental Health Services will be providing important suicide awareness and prevention education for students at Lakeview Jr High, as required by Ohio's House Bill 123. This program, called SOS Signs of Suicide, teaches students about mental health, depression, and suicide prevention.
The key lessons include:
Depression is treatable, and it's important to seek help.
How to recognize signs of depression or suicide risk in themselves or others.
The ACT method: Acknowledge, Care, and Tell a trusted adult when concerned.
Students will watch videos, participate in discussions, and complete a screening form to assess whether they might need to seek professional help. If any concerns arise, the school will contact parents. If you would not like for your student to participate in the screening form, please complete the opt out form and return it to your child's school counselor. The opt-out form states a deadline of October 3, 2024; however, because our sessions are at various points throughout the year depending on the team, you can send in the opt-out at any point before the screening.
For more information, feel free to reach out to contact the school counselors Chad_Gill@plsd.us (Students with the last name A-F), Sarah_Geiger@plsd.us (G-M), Ryan_Max@plsd.us (N-Z).
Lost & Found Filling Up
Our Lost & Found is quickly filling up. If your child has lost or misplaced an item (typically clothing or a water bottle) since the beginning of school, please encourage them to check out our Lost & Found, located just inside the Cafeteria's entrance. All unclaimed items will be trashed or donated at the end of Quarter 2 (December 20th).
Morning Drop-Off Reminders
Thank you to our families and their patience during our morning drop-off. We know it can be hectic with hundreds of students being dropped off in front of the building within a 15-minute window, but we have a very smooth process due to our families' willingness to be patient and move slowly through the line.
One reminder: Once the buses start arriving to the front of the building, please do not follow the buses around the loop. We have 6 buses that typically drop off out front, and there is not enough room for vehicles to pass them on the left, so vehicles end up getting stuck. If there is a cone blocking a vehicle's path, please turn in front of the cone. The cone is there to designate that you cannot go past that point.
