Vision Health: Our Eyes
A child benefits in school by maintaining vision health. It has been estimated that as much as 80% of the learning a child does occurs through his or her eyes. Reading, writing, board work, and using computers are among the visual tasks students perform daily. A child’s eyes are constantly in use in the classroom and at play.
Vision screenings are done at school for PreK, Kindergarten, 1st grade, 3rd grade, 5th grade, and 7th grade, but this far vision screening may miss some eye issues. Vision changes can occur without your child or you noticing them. Therefore, it is recommended that children receive a professional eye exam at least once every 2 years by a physician. The earlier a vision problem is detected and treated, the more likely treatment will be successful.
If you received a vision or hearing referral form from screenings completed at school this year, have your child’s doctor complete the bottom portion and return it as soon as possible to the school nurse. If you need a new copy of your student’s referral form or have questions about your student’s results, please contact Nurse Green.
If your child is prescribed glasses, make sure they wear them daily at school! Explain to them the importance of wearing their glasses and also taking care of them.
We want every student to succeed and reminding them to wear their glasses daily is one factor in their success!
Giesinger Assistance Programs
Dear Parent or Guardian,
Throughout the year, different organizations come to Giesinger Elementary wanting to assist our students and families with various needs. The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, a federal law that makes student educational records confidential, prohibits us from releasing student information to these agencies without your permission.
To help us work with these groups in the most efficient way possible, we ask that if your child qualifies for our Free and Reduced Lunch Program and you are interested in receiving help, you complete this form.
These assistance programs vary from year to year. Giving us permission to release your information does not automatically mean you will receive assistance and the assistance given varies from year to year. It does let us know that you would welcome such assistance and would be willing to have your information released to these organizations. In turn, these groups agree to use your information only for the purpose of their assistance programs. It is also required that your consent for release of information be updated annually.
For FREE & REDUCED SCHOOL MEALS: complete application online as soon as possible. Visit www.myschoolapps.com. Applications must be completed annually for each child in your qualifying family. This application process is secure and confidential.
Sincerely,
Laura Heemann, Giesinger Counselor
Tech Tips
Know what apps your child is using. Some apps are designed to hide photos and other content.
Know youth aren't where you think they are online. Once you, a parent/ guardian, are on a social site (Facebook, Instagram), your child has already found a newer, hipper one.
Know who your child's friends are online.
Know how much time your child is spending on their device and apps or games.

Referral requests are now open for the Conroe Independent School District Gifted and Talented program. Although the testing will not take place until late January, referral requests are accepted at this time. Referral requests can be made by the parents and/or campus staff.
It is recommended that parents of 2nd grade students wait until CogAT scores have arrived before nominating their child because CogAT scores are part of the GT assessment. If you are interested in referring your child, you may want to discuss this with your child’s teacher.
Referrals will be accepted October 1- December 19, 2024. You can find the links for the forms below or you may request a referral form from the front office or the School Counselor. You can also find the referral form and other GT information on the CISD GT homepage.
