“It is the beautiful task of Advent to awaken in all of us memories of goodness and thus to open doors of hope.”

School News
Dear Saint Ambrose Parents,
A big round of applause to Mrs. Bertsch and our talented band students for an outstanding concert last night! Your joyful music was the perfect way to kick off the month. Let’s go, band! 🎶✨
Three cheers also to our 5th grade teachers and classes. The Charlie Brown Christmas plays were a wonderful way to focus on the true meaning of Christmas.
We are looking forward to our K-8 Christmas Concert on Tuesday, December 17 at 7:00 PM. This is more of an auditory than visual experience: we invite you to come and enjoy listening for an hour that will lift your spirits and truly set the mood for a joyful Christmas. Students should report to their classrooms at 6:45. K-2 parents can walk students to their classrooms. 3-5 grade students can head to the classrooms on their own (to lessen the number of people in the hallways). Students in grades 6-8 should go to Fellowship Hall to line up for the show. After the concert, I will invite K-5 teachers and students to head back to classrooms. Then, I will release parents to go collect students (and coats!) in their classrooms.
If you drop off on the South Side in the morning, please adhere to our drop off procedures. We have had some unsafe release of students from cars through moving traffic, and some impatient drivers hurrying through the area. Thank you for prioritizing safety.
Next week we have a full 5 day week, and we will be focused on learning. Students should wear uniforms unless using an out of uniform pass.
One exception: *The 6-8th graders have a Saints event on Friday and will wear house colors that day. *
I am not really a Grinch...I know our students thrive with structure and look forward to a great week of learning. Plus, they have a loooong break to wear what they choose.

December can be a time of busyness and increased stress in adults and children.
Generosity has been shown to improve mood and decrease stress in both the person being generous and those seeing the act.
The Wellness Committee is offering a Coloring Page for your family. Color in the sections as you complete the act of kindness. Feel free to add your own ideas.
Woodbury United is offering a try Lacrosse for Free - click here for more info.
Coco's Heart Enrichment Opportunity Update - We are happy to announce that we’ve sold ALL 35 of our snuffle mats. We are excited to donate $700 to Coco’s Heart! Thank you all SO much for supporting our service project and helping Coco’s Heart. We hope your dogs love their mats! :)
Let us pray:
Lord Jesus,
Master of both the light and the darkness, send your Holy Spirit upon our preparations for Christmas.
We who have so much to do and seek quiet spaces to hear your voice each day,
We who are anxious over many things look forward to your coming among us.
We who are blessed in so many ways long for the complete joy of your kingdom.
We whose hearts are heavy seek the joy of your presence.
We are your people, walking in darkness, yet seeking the light.
To you we say, "Come Lord Jesus!'
Amen.

The Saint Ambrose Way tenet we will be connecting with Advent is Be Holy.
Holiness is a state of being devoted to God and living a life that glorifies God.
A few ways students can show holiness during Advent are:
Actively participating in prayer
Attending Mass regularly
Participating during Mass in prayer and singing
Performing acts of charity and service
Reflecting on scripture readings, especially those related to the coming of Christ
Practicing self-discipline through fasting or simple sacrifices
Engaging in Advent traditions, like Advent wreath, and daily meditations
Here is a link to an Advent calendar you could use at home to help your child celebrate Advent and the many blessings we have been given by God, with the greatest gift being Jesus.
This months as a school we will be learning more about the following people and celebrations:

Mission and Philosophy
Mission (what we offer)
We at Saint Ambrose School are part of a vibrant Catholic community supporting and nurturing
each child on their journey with Christ.
Through exceptional academics, embracing each child’s unique strengths and needs, and
joyfully engaging in prayer and service, we take a holistic, virtue-based approach to student
education and experiences. This is the Saint Ambrose Way.
Vision (what we aspire to)
As a thriving Catholic school, we create meaningful impact though each family we support and
student we send into the world.
By helping form the whole child, students are not only prepared well for the next level of
education, but life as Christian adults living the Saint Ambrose Way.
PHILOSOPHY
The Saint Ambrose community recognizes the partnership between parents, students, staff,
administration and parishioners in providing for the development of its members as people of
faith who worship, learn and grow together. As a community we have a responsibility to
support families- as the primary educators of their children- while providing enriching
experiences that promote a sense of belonging and responsibility to a community.
