The official digital newsletter of La Porte ISD
Greetings, La Porte ISD Family. Today is a great day to be a Bulldog!
On the day we returned from Spring Break, La Porte ISD hit the ground running. During visits to campuses this past week, I witnessed much teaching and learning, in preparation for the the upcoming STAAR tests. I also saw multiple rehearsals and practices for spring performances and games. I am always amazed by the efforts of our students and teachers to achieve excellence!
Everyone will get some extra rest this week and next, as Friday (March 29) and Monday (April 1) are holidays. I encourage you to rest and use this time for yourself so that you have plenty of energy to continue working toward finishing the 2023-24 school year as strongly as possible when we return.
I am grateful to our wonderful staff, parents and board members for helping us continue our legacy of excellence.
Superintendent Shout-outs
- Shout-out to the James H. Baker Student Council, who visited the Houston Food Bank and volunteered their time to help organize and distribute donations. They were able to load 10 pallets filled with 240 boxes, weighing 5,344 pounds, and create 4,453 meals!
- Congratulations to our FFA students, who earned several honors at the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo this year. You continue to make La Porte proud!
- Our Mighty Bulldog Drumline and Color Guard also keep La Porte on the map with outstanding contest performances. Way to go!
- A mega shout-out to the La Porte High School Bowling Team for representing our district in the State Bowling Tournament this weekend. Your accomplishments are extremely impressive.
- Our Bulldogs Soccer Team also exemplifies excellence. Please join me in wishing them well in their Bi-District playoff this week.
- Our alums continue to make us proud. After anchoring the Oklahoma State University Distance Medley Relay to a national title, Ryan Schoppe was named First Team All-America in the 3,000 Meters! Meanwhile, baseball pitcher Diego Luzardo continues to impress at the University of Houston, where he recently picked up his first collegiate career save against Rice. Finally, Buffalo Bills defensive standout Terrel Bernard made a visit to his hometown this past week to record a documentary for his NFL team. But he made sure to talk to Bulldogs student-athletes while he was here. How impressive!
Thank you for all that you do. I hope you have a great week!
With La Porte pride,
Walter Jackson, Ed.D.
