Peterson's Message- K3 Director
Greetings Team!
I hope everyone had a nice weekend! We have some fun things happening this week!! Let's jump in!
Breast Cancer Awareness Day- Monday Wear Pink and Jeans
Awareness of the facts and statistics surrounding breast cancer in the United States is key in empowering individuals to make informed decisions about their health. Here are some statistics from the National Breast Cancer Foundation: 1 in 8 women in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime. In 2024, an estimated 310,720 women and 2,800 men will be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer. Chances are, you know at least one person who has been personally affected by breast cancer. But there is hope. When caught in its earliest, localized stages, the 5-year relative survival rate is 99%. Advances in early detection and treatment methods have significantly increased breast cancer survival rates in recent years, and there are currently over 4 million breast cancer survivors in the United States. Monday, I will wear pink and jeans for my mom, who fought hard against breast cancer for the last 5 years of her life. Ladies over 40, be sure to have your regularly scheduled mammograms!
Indigenous People's Day- 2nd Monday in October
Here is a link to a USA Today Article explaining more of what Indigenous People's Day is and why the push to eliminate Columbus Day. Let's remember that the Milwaukee area land once belonged to Indigenous People including the Potawatomi, Ho-Chunk, and Menominee. Feel free to share this video/song about Indigenous People's Day with your class!
Field Trip- Thursday
Tigers, Bulldogs, and Golden Eagles will attend their first Field Trip of the year on Thursday 10/17. The three classrooms will be going to Apple Holler @ 9:00am-1:30pm. Have fun, be safe, and bring me back a carmel apple! ;-)
Professional Development Day- Friday
Friday will be our October PD Day. There is no school for scholars. All staff will report from 7:30am-11:30am. We will meet together as a full team from 7:30-8:30 and then split off. Lead Teachers will have time to finalize report cards and work on planning for Theme 3. Educational Assistants will receive PD on Anecdotal Records and differentiation of small groups.
Aftercare Reminders/Updates-Room 122: 10/14 - 12/13
All EAs MUST be sure that their clipboard sign in/out sheet is accurate when transitioning scholars over to aftercare. The number of scholars EAs are dropping off to aftercare should always match the number of scholars still signed in for the day. The staff member working to ratio should be the person checking clipboards and double counting scholars as the aftercare scholars are coming in. The new staff schedule starts Tuesday 10/15. Here is the MCP3 Aftercare schedule/RAP document for your review.
Speech and Language Screening- ACTION NEEDED
Our fabulous Speech and Language Pathologists for MCP will be here on Friday 10/25 to screen the scholars from our program that you have concerns about regarding their speech &/or language. Please think about the scholars in your class that are difficult to understand, have limited language, or scholars who seem to not understand what you are asking/telling them to do. Add their names, DOB, and any notes to your room # tab on this spreadsheet by 12:00 on 10/18. I will provide more information to you and families as we get closer to the screener date.
With all the Love and Respect,
Peterson

Message from Ms. Perine
I hope this message finds you well. As part of our ongoing commitment to keeping our school safe, we will conduct a Code Red lockdown drill on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, at 10:15 a.m. This drill is an essential part of our safety protocols to ensure that everyone is prepared to respond effectively in the event of an emergency.
Key Details:
The drill will take place on Tuesday, October 15, 2024 and will last approximately 15 minutes.
Please be sure to discuss the upcoming drill with your scholars during Morning Meeting on the day of the drill to help them understand its purpose and ensure they are prepared. The Teacher-Student Outline is attached to the original email.
During the drill, please follow all procedures closely:
Lock classroom doors and turn off the lights.
Direct scholars to move to a designated area out of sight of windows and doors.
Maintain silence and keep scholars calm.
Take attendance and communicate any missing or extra scholars via text message to our Group Text.
Additional Notes:
Campus leadership (Director and Office Administrator) will be conducting sweeps during the drill to check for compliance with safety measures, such as locked doors, lights off, and scholars/staff out of sight.
The drill is being scheduled on a day without assemblies to minimize disruptions and ensure full participation.
Post-Drill Actions:
After the drill, please complete the Google Form that will be shared, providing your feedback on what went well, any challenges faced, and opportunities for improvement.
The Director and I will collaborate to complete the drill log as required.
Our SESS (Heifetz) will be available to support any staff/scholars who may need assistance before, during, or after the drill. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to her if you feel that a scholar in your class needs additional support.
Your role in ensuring the success of this drill is crucial, and I appreciate your commitment to maintaining a safe environment for our scholars. If you have any questions or concerns leading up to the drill, please feel free to reach out.
This information was shared with families on Friday, October 11th.
Thank you for your continued dedication and support.
SESS Update
Ms. Heifetz has worked hard this first quarter to help all scholars and classrooms learn our routines and procedures. She has worked hard to get to know our scholars and at this time in the quarter, we have learned our scholars who need additional support with Social-Emotional skills. Please know that Ms. Heifetz's goal this week it to meet with each teaching team for a brief 15 minutes during the 1:15-2:00 time to discuss the scholars we have identified to need small group and 1:1 support from her. This will be a time to share concerns and brainstorm initial goals for the scholars as well as ways she can best support them moving forward. This information will help her to create her schedule moving forward.
ClassDojo
Thank you for being diligent in using Dojo to communicate to famlies regarding happenings and updates for your homerooms, our school, and for individual scholars. Great work in using Dojo points as well to document the positive things in your class as well as when scholars receive time outs.
