Matanzas High School Weekly Update
October 4, 2024
Hurricane Helene Make Up Day
October 14th, which was previously scheduled to be a teacher work day, will now be a regular student school day due to the school missed due to Hurricane Helene. Quarter 1 report cards will be released in Skyward on Friday, October 18th.
Schoolwide Testing Day - 10/9
Who is Testing on 10/9?
9th Grade - Study Hall - remember next week is the last week of Quarter 1 this will be a great time for students to complete any missing work.
10th Grade - All students will take the PSAT
11th Grade - All students will take the PSAT/NMSQT
12th Grade - Any student who has not yet met their graduation testing requirement for ELA and Math will take the SAT (Non-College Reportable version). 12th graders who are not testing will have a Study Hall in the gym.
*There is NO make up for the PSAT or SAT, if students are absent they will miss this opportunity to test.
Why Take the PSAT-NMSQT?
- The PSAT can be used to earn a 'concordant' score to meet the math test score graduation requirement.
- All students who take the PSAT will receive feedback on their college and career readiness and be connected to resources to prepare for college and careers.
- 11th grade students can qualify for National Merit Scholarships based on their scores for this PSAT administration.
12th Grade - SAT Non-College Reportable
Any 12th grade student who has not yet met their graduation requirement for either ELA or Math will take the SAT (Non-College Reportable version) on October 9th. There is no make up day for this test, so it is imperative that any 12th grader who still needs to earn a score for graduation is in attendance on this day.
October is National Bullying Prevention Month
This month, many of our groups on campus are sponsoring activities to promote our anti-bullying message: "Be an Upstander, not a Bystander" in recognition of October as National Bullying Prevention Month. We are appreciative of National Honor Society, Matanzas Future Teachers, and SGA who are sponsoring activities throughout the month to spread kindness.
MHS Theatrical Production
Up the Down Staircase by Christopher Sergel
Matanzas Theater Company is presenting the play UP THE DOWN STAIRCASE on October 4 at 7pm, and October 5 at 2pm and 7pm. The play tells the story of Sylvia Barrett, a first-year teacher at an inner-city high school. Over 50 Matanzas High School students create the world of Calvin Coolidge High, where Sylvia finds herself learning more lessons than she is able to teach during her tumultuous first semester in the classroom. Tickets are $10 at the door or through the link below.
