From the Board...
Welcome new board member, Alex Goldner!
Alex (top row) is a Corvallis native who moved back to the area after spending 10 years in New Mexico where he pursued graduate studies at UNM. His partner, Niya, and he have two boys, Nikos (2nd grade) and Zakai (4th grade), who have both attended Muddy Creek since kindergarten. Alex has worked at Student Health at Oregon State University since 2019, and has a passion for medicine and education. He joined the board out of a desire to support the school and its mission to deliver an amazing place-based education.
New Policies are Posted!
The ICP Board have been working on replacing our old Policies & Procedures with more legally compliant, thourough, and easy to understand policies. We contracted with the Oregon School Board Association to utilize their templates and consulting services. It took nearly a year, but the board approved the new policies and they are now posted on our website for your reading pleasure:

Poets in First
This month I introduced some poetry writing to the 1st graders and we did some fine motor practice by tearing our poetry into art pieces in the hallway. We worked on 2-word poems, 5 senses poetry, and focused on adjectives and nouns in an adjective poem which was a little challenging but fun to come up with words that would work.
Soil Composition in 3rd
Cooperative Play in PE
All PE classes are using multiple areas/stations to learn to play cooperatively. They have built objects, created their own games or instigated games, or simply shared space doing their own thing.
Library
Last month, the 3rd-5th graders participated in what has become a favorite annual Muddy Creek Library unit: The Mock Caldecott Awards! Students became Caldecott committee members and applied the official Caldecott criteria to analyze and rate eight distinguished picture books and select the winners.
Instrument Petting Zoo
In each βcorralβ there was something fun, new, and noisy to be found from nearly every instrument family. We played with rain sticks, glockenspiels, xylophones, triangles and much more. Students worked on instrument care and handling. Be sure to check your students for symptoms, weβre hearing thereβs a fever for MORE COWBELL going around.
Sew much fun in Art!
There was some fabulous stitching happening in 3rd grade as we started skill building for our Fiber Center. The kids will learn three different stitches, how to cut, stuff, imagine, and knot their way through their creations. This is the first step towards making stuffies in 4th grade!
