From the Principal:
As parents and staff members, our children's safety is our highest priority. As we are finishing thirteen days of school we are still settling in to routines. Something we can never place on auto pilot is the safety of our children walking and riding bikes.
We need all of our drivers, whether parents or community members, to pay extra careful attention when our students are on the walkways and roads.
- Slow down in our school zones and in neighborhoods. Many children come to school early for practices, and may be traveling outside of the time the school zone sign is blinking.
- Pay attention to crosswalks, and obey crossing guard instructions.
- Be attentive and off of cell phones in school zones and around neighborhoods.
In the mornings, the sun can be so bright that it prevents drivers from seeing children crossing the street. Please also talk to your children about bike and pedestrian safety.
It was wonderful to see everyone at Parent Information Night on Wednesday. We are very thankful for your support an encouragement. It has been a great first 13 days of the school year.
Wishing everyone a wonderful Labor Day Weekend.

Collins Planner
We are so excited to be able to provide each Collins student with a specially designed Collins Planner this school year. The current planner is for the fall semester and they will receive a new planner for the spring in January. Please review the planner expectations below. Very valuable information can be shared from home to school through this planner.
Parent Involvement & Community Needs
Thank you for providing input on how we can better serve our families and community. We will use this feedback to hone our outreach practices here at Collins.
Collins Site Based
Collins Site Based Committee - Sep 5 @ 8AM
The Collins Site Based committee will be having our first meeting on Thursday, Sep 5 at 8AM. At this meeting we will review our purpose, goals and approve our campus improvement plan. Admin, staff, teachers, parents and community members make up our committee.
Attendance
As we progress through the school year, please remember the importance of school attendance and arriving to school on time. In addition, children who arrive late to school miss the important groundwork that is laid by teachers at the beginning of the day.
The instruction and learning that occur on a daily basis in the classroom is our central mission. Parents who make regular school attendance and punctuality a high priority are helping their children learn to accept responsibility, which is an important lesson for a successful life.
As we work to increase Collins Intermediate’s daily attendance – please continue to support your child’s educational process by limiting the amount of school missed except for illness. Collins Intermediate daily goal is 98.2%.

Counselors' Corner
Dear Collins Parents,
We are excited to be your student’s Counselor at Collins Intermediate, and we’re looking forward to a great school year. As you know, our role is to work with students, parents, and teachers to provide a positive environment where our Collins Cobras become lifelong learners. We believe that counseling is another way of tapping into resources and helping students have a positive experience. Through our guidance curriculum, we will focus on building character traits to help our students be successful and teaching them that “Collins Cobras always do the R.I.G.H.T thing” (Respect, Integrity, Gratitude, Honesty, Try your best are our Collins pillars).
A major component of our guidance program is to coordinate services for students throughout the year. To meet the needs of our students, we would like a little information. Please fill out the needs assessment form linked below to help us best support your child. If you would rather discuss this survey with your child’s counselor, please call us at your convenience.
Talk Saves Lives Presentation
On September 26, 2024, Conroe ISD will be hosting the Talk Saves Lives presentation at Lone Star College - Montgomery from 6:30-7:30 PM in room G102. If Conroe ISD staff attend, they could earn CEUs for it. If you have any questions, please email ldtaylor@conroeisd.net.
Did You Know
A study published in JAMA Pediatrics found a significant association between high social media use and increased odds of depression symptoms in adolescents.
Nurse Reminders
Parents please do NOT send medications to school with your child, including cough drops and inhalers. This is a district policy - parents must bring the medication to school and sign a permission form. Students are not allowed to carry inhalers unless we have a doctor’s order. Please contact your child’s doctor and request an order for the school to allow your child to self-carry an inhaler and bring it to the clinic.
Safety Update
We will be conducting a Lockdown/Intruder drill the first week of September. Teachers are showing the students an informational video created by Collins Admin to show our students so they are well prepared for when the drill happens. Here is the short video we will show students on Tuesday Sep. 3rd. Lockdown Video
If you have any questions or concerns, please give us a call.
Thank you, Collins Admin
Art
We are off to a great start to the school year in the art rooms at Collins! Students are working on their drawing skills and are learning about artist Chuck Close and the grid method in Mr. Hunt’s room. In Mrs. Williams' room students are learning about mixed media and practicing developing their skills using different mediums.
If you have not already done so please pay the art/music fee through your school cash online account. This fee will purchase the supplies your student will need throughout the school year in both art and music. Students are welcome to bring their own art supplies to supplement what is provided by Collins but it is in no way required. Happy drawing!
PE
What a great first few weeks back in the Collins gym! We loved playing Badminton and are looking forward to our next units of Four Square and Volleyball. Our next health unit will be Goal Setting. Our next Cobra Cardio days will be September 3rd and 11th. Please help your student to remember to bring a water bottle to school and wear sneakers on our cardio days. If you’d like to follow along with our happenings in PE, check out our PE Instagram! We will post pictures of our activities throughout the year. Look for CollinsIntermediaePE. 😀
Choir
Choir is back!
The Collins Cobra Choir rehearsals will be held on Tuesday mornings for 6th graders, Wednesday mornings for 5th graders and ALL meet together on Thursdays from 4 PM to 5 PM. Please refer to the handbook for important information, dates, and the rehearsal calendar. Paper copies will be sent home with students at the first rehearsal. Hope to see you there!
Technology
Students changed their passwords and had to choose a picture for their MFA identification on their SSOs this week. Have them practice logging into sso.conroeisd.net at home to be sure they remember their information.
Parents, please join Parent Access Center. You will find all of your students’ grades and information, set alerts, and this is how we can be sure your contact information is correct.
Library Update
The 2024-25 school year is off to a great start in our library! Students may have up to 3 library books out at one time, for a 2-week checkout window. Our 5th graders have already been providing great suggestions to enhance our collection of books! Our 6th graders are happy that the gentrification of fiction has been completed and they find that previously incomplete series have been completed!
Mrs. Massey, our librarian, is eager for parent volunteers to sign up to help shelve books and help with other projects throughout the year! Dates for volunteering begin September 3rd! Thank you for signing up! Here is the signup link:
