Our Employee Assistance Program (EAP) through Beacon is a great resource for employees. They provide employees with assistance in a wide variety of areas – like coping with stress, conflict management, legal services, financial services, child care resources, and much more. Please see attached brochures for details and contact information (800)-435-1986
Listed below are some common areas of concern, and some simple actions you can take to avoid these.
Physical discipline: It's never OK to physically discipline students. Don't redirect students by pushing, pulling, poking or physically moving students. If you are CPI trained, brush up on your knowledge and ask for help.
Professional demeanor: It's never OK to yell at students. Be cognizant and aware of your tone and demeanor at all times.
Attendance: Be cognizant of your overall attendance. Work hard to be on time and be present every day.
Positive relationships at work: Everyone is responsible for establishing, nurturing, and maintaining positive relationships with co-workers and supervisors. Gossip leads to all sorts of problems - don’t do it!
Conduct outside of work: Remember that the Board's standard is that all employees should "conduct themselves on and off the job in a manner that not only reflects positively on the school system, but that sets forth a model worthy of emulation by students."
Self-Reflection: Be self-reflective about your work performance. At the end of each week, ask yourself two simple questions: "What worked?" and "What could I have done differently?"
Reacting to information: Don't react immediately when confronted with negative information. Take some time to think and reflect before responding (especially when it comes to email).
Email etiquette: Don't use email as a "weapon." If you're bothered by something, pick up the phone and talk to the person. Better yet - speak with the person, in person!
