From the Principal's Desk

VERY IMPORTANT! Reminder! We are collecting ALL chromebooks and chargers on Monday (tomorrow!). Make sure to bring your chromebook and charger with you to school on Monday (tomorrow!).
The final week of the 2023-2024 school year is upon us. We have full days Monday and Tuesday. Half Days Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday for Final Exams. Please see the schedule below for the week ahead.
Few things as we close out the '23-24 School Year:
- FINISH up this school year as strong as you can academically as you are laying the foundation for next year right now. The Final Exams hold a significant amount of weight in your overall Semester 2 grade. Prep yourself. Study up. Do your very best.
- If you used one, get your locker cleaned out by the end of the day on Tuesday this week. Throw your trash away. Turn in all school related materials. Take home what you need to take home.
- Make good choices this week. We will continue to enforce the W-W Student Code of Conduct. Please know that if you choose to violate the Code of Conduct as we end this school year, the consequences could be no Homecoming Events in the fall.
- Let's end the year on a positive note!
I hope that you have an amazing summer! Enjoy the break from school! Have some fun with your friends and family! Please be safe! I /we will look forward to see you all back here in the fall.
Have a great last week of school and summer break!!

Cool Classrooms
For these final weeks of the 24-25 school year, this space will feature multiple cool culminating projects across courses.
WMHS hosted its first National History Day event. All semester, Word History students have worked on exhibits, documentaries, websites, and research papers focused on the theme of "Turning Points in History." Last Wednesday, many staff members and outside guests served as judges as students presented their completed projects. In subsequent days, students participated in gallery walks to learn from each other's explorations.
In various art classes, seniors had the opportunity to paint their "senior stool." The graduating students were invited to leave their legacy by designing an image that will remain a part of the art classroom for years to come.
In an ongoing exercise throughout the course, AP English Language and Composition students lead fishbowl discussions with their peers. Students facilitating the group are responsible for curating resources and driving the conversation. Others are either seated in the inner circle, participating in dialogue based on the topic and provided texts, or seated in the outer circle, writing a response to the unfolding conversation. Student-selected readings are formatted to resemble the AP test as practice for the exam, which can lead to earning college credit.
Students in select US History classes had the opportunity to hear from a holocaust survivor. Last week, Ms. Irene Miller spent two hours sharing her story and served as a primary source to extend historical inquiry about key events from the mid-twentieth century. Each student was gifted a copy of Ms. Miller's book, Into No Man's Land. Students appreciated the opportunity to hear firsthand accounts from Ms. Miller, take pictures with her, and have her autograph their new books.
Cool investigations are always a part of WMHS science classrooms. In Forensics, students participated in a facial reconstruction exercise using clay to mold features of their selected person or character. And in Physics classes, students launched rockets of their own design. Rockets were judged based on performance, engineering, and aesthetics.

- Seniors: The FAFSA is open. You will have a very short window of opportunity to complete this. This year changes have been made to make the FAFSA easier to complete. Gather the items that you need now. You will need to gather tax returns from last year. You will want to start gathering income documentation (ex. child support if you receive any - you will want to get those totals). Student and parent(s) will each need the FAFSA ID which you can get now. Visit StudentAid.gov/fsa-id/create-account/launch to create an FSA ID. You'll need your Social Security number, full name, and date of birth. You'll also need to create a memorable username and password, and complete challenge questions and answers so you can retrieve your account information if you forget it.
