Mr. Kirschenbaum, ELA
This week, students will finish their posters based on our trip to the African American Museum and complete an analysis of a passage from Roll of Thunder to examine themes.
As we begin a new advisory, students should continue to read their independent books. If you are interested in adding to our classroom collection, please visit our Amazon Wish List
We will begin Tuck Everlasting on December 2nd, so please make sure your student has a copy of the text.
Mx. Gomez, Math
Enjoy the long weekend everyone!
If you are able to donate, I have linked the math Amazon Wishlist. https://www.amazon.com/registries/gl/guest-view/3HGDSTYZTUUQL
Ms. Wesselhoft, Geography
What a GREAT week! We have been investigating Voices of the African Diaspora. So far, students have met Bunmi from Nigeria, Magda from east Africa and watched a music video from FUSE ODG to cue him up for our discussion next week. Students will also learn about the people of Dominican Republic and Haiti, be assigned a CEA to read about one of our voices – Eric Adjepong, and more! As we read/listen/watch, we collect notes about their experiences and then evaluate how they contribute/represent the diaspora.
If you would like to contribute to my classroom... here is my Amazon wish list: Wesselhoft Wishlist
Ms. Sagan, Science
Hello scientists!
Thank you for all of your hard work while I've been out sick - walking pneumonia is a pain!
A reminder to all of the wonderful people at home - if your child is sick, please keep them home!
This past week your students worked hard to affirm their understanding of Plate Motion in preparation for their summative. Due to my illness, that summative has been pushed to Wednesday, November 6th. If your student will not be in school that day, please remind them that they have to schedule a time to finish it with me themselves.
Next week we will be beginning our next unit - rock transformations! We will focus on the rock cycle, topographic maps, weathering, erosion, deposition, and beyond!
Roots are back! Our next roots quiz will be on November 8th and will feature the following words from our new set:
Centi = 1/100 (think centimeter)
Milli = 1/1,000 (think milligram, milliliter)
Hexa = 6 (think hexagon)
Octa = 8 (think octopus)
Deca = 10 (think decade)
