ADMINISTRATIVE ANNOUNCEMENTS
Important: Complete the Free and Reduced-Price Meals (FARM) Application
Dear CMIT Parents and Guardians,
We need your support to ensure our CMIT schools receive the funding necessary to provide the best possible education for your children. Due to changes under the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future, our schools face budget challenges, partly because of low submission rates for Free and Reduced-Price Meals (FARM) applications.
Even if you think your family may not qualify, we strongly encourage every parent to complete the application. Each submitted form helps secure essential funding for your school, and unsubmitted forms could mean a loss of $7,800 per student.
Why is this important?
FARM applications determine eligibility for free/reduced meals and additional funding for your child’s school.
Schools lose significant resources if families do not complete these forms, even if they may not qualify.
How easy is it to apply?
It only takes 5-10 minutes to complete the application.
Applications are simple and available in English, Spanish, and French.
You can submit online at www.myschoolapps.com or by following the attached instructions.

Principal Monthly Updates
New School Logo Update and Uniform Information
As shared during the 2023-2024 school year, our school's new logo uniform will be mandatory starting in the 2025-2026 school year. Risse Uniform Company is offering a sale on uniforms featuring the current (old) logo that can only be worn for the remainder of the 2024-2025 school year.
Risse Uniform Company currently has new logo uniforms available in some sizes, all sizes can be ordered as needed.
Effective Immediately:
Any item that is ordered will have the new logo.
Any item with the old logo can no longer be returned or exchanged.
All old logo items are on sale in-store only as a final sale.
All polos - $10.
All oxfords - $10.
Sweater vests - $10.

Our last tutoring sessions will be next week!
Hello Parents,
Due to the missed days from the inclement weather. The last date for Math tutoring will be January 21st and the last date for Reading tutoring will be January 24th. Students will need to attend the additional dates tutoring sessions in order to complete the program. Please allow your scholar to attend these makeup sessions.
Saturday Academy Schedule
Saturday Academy is in session for Saturday January 18, 2025.
Students who were invited and accepted the invitation prior to the deadline should report to the back of the school for drop off at 9:00 a.m. Pick up will begin promptly at 11:00 a.m. Please make sure to be on time for drop off and pick up.

Clubs will be held IN PERSON after the 2:25 p.m.-2:55 p.m. school dismissal. Club times are from 3:00 p.m.- 4:00 p.m. on the days specified. Clubs students must be picked up at 4:00 p.m.

Nurse Updates
A Message from Nurse Ann
It is imperative that we are aware of any health issues. Please update the school nurse for any new or important medical information. Our immunization compliance is almost at 100% please continue to forward documentation to the nurse.
Please help yourself and others -- keep your scholars home when they are not well.
Immunizations
Immunizations must be up-to-date and received by the school nurse to prevent exclusion from school.
Medication forms are attached. Please hand carry newly prescribed medication in the pharmacy packaging. Any adult may deliver the medication to the nurse. (appointments must be made)

Social Studies: We are learning about jobs in our community and how we can help each other.
Math: We are learning how to decompose numbers up to 10 and reviewing addition and subtraction.
Science: We are learning all about severe weather and how we prepare for the different weather that occur in our state.
We started state assessments this week and will continue over the next couple of weeks. Please make sure that your scholar is getting enough rest, eats a nutritious breakfast, and comes to school ready.
Friendly reminder: If your scholar has a fever or is not feeling well, please keep them home until their symptoms are gone for at least 24 hours. We are trying to alleviate the spread of germs within our classrooms.

Hello First Families,
. We are thrilled to share that our students have been working very hard after our long winter break! As we continue our journey through this school year, we are grateful for your ongoing support.
Important Announcements:
STEM Fair Projects Due: Please remember that STEM fair projects are due on January 30. We look forward to seeing all the creative ideas our scholars have developed!
Weather Advisory: Next week, temperatures are expected to drop below 30 degrees. We encourage everyone to send their children to school with heavy coats to keep them warm.
Reusable Water Bottles: To promote hydration and sustainability, please send your child with a reusable water bottle. This will allow them to fill up during the day.
DIBELS Testing: DIBELS testing will continue next week.
MAP Testing: The start of MAP testing is approaching. Please ensure that your scholar is well-rested to achieve their best.
Grandparents Day: We are excited to celebrate Grandparents Day on Friday, January 24. It’s a wonderful opportunity for our students to share special moments with their grandparents.
School Closure: Please note that schools will be closed on Monday, January 20.

Terrific Third Grade News!
In Social Studies, students will begin Chapter 3: Lesson 6 Creating a New Nation.
In Math, scholars are taking the winter MAP test! Make sure everyone is getting plenty of rest, eating a nutritious breakfast, and are showing up on time. We are also starting Topic 9, Fluently Adding and Subtracting up to 1,000.
In Science, we should be on track to finish up our unit on weather. Also, our STEM Fair projects are due at the end of month!

-Please take note that the weather is changing.

CMIT Spelling Bee
The 2nd Annual Spelling Bee will take place on January 23, 2025 at 8:15 am. Grades 3-5 will assemble in the gym and will watch the best spellers in our school compete for the title of Spelling Bee Champion! Our 5th grade champion will migrate to the regional championship with a chance to compete in the National Scripps Spelling Bee that is televised on ESPN! Let's support our scholars as they compete for the championship title! Way to go!
MLK Day/No School Monday, January 20, 2025
No School on Monday, January 20, 2025 in observance of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.. School will resume on January 21, 2025.

Superior Specials News!
Kindergarteners are working on Lines and Shapes. We have reviewed safe scissor use and techniques.
Students will create their own artwork focused on lines and shapes and experiment with collage.
First graders are finishing a project called,
I Love My Hair!
Students will create a portrait with an abstract hair design that depicts a particular mood or feeling, using line, repetition, pattern, and color.
Second graders are creating imaginary creatures in
“Monster Mashup”
Students will present their never-before-seen creature hybrids by combining parts from five animals, to create one in its habitat. We will critique next week.
Third graders are making Patterned Landscapes. Students will create a landscape that contains patterns.
Fourth grade, Names Revealed Through Color:
Students are creating geometric name designs using color, shapes, lines, and text to express an aspect of their personality. They will submit Artist Statements next week along with a critique
Fifth graders are making “Monster Line Drawings” Students create illustrations from random markings to create a 3D image with form and texture.

Hello!
K is learning about how songs can go in the direction of up or down and have high and low parts. 1st grade is learning how to read and play Sol and Mi on the xylophone. 2nd grade is leaning about how to play the G Pentatonic scale on the xylophone. 3rd grade is reviewing treble clef notes and learning about intervals in music (skips and steps). 4th grade is preparing for their xylophone project, playing the chorus of Under the Sea on the xylophone. And 5th grade is preparing for their xylophone project, playing the chorus of It’s The Climb on the xylophone.

K-2 practiced Keyboarding: Locate and Type Letters A, B, C, D, and E
During this engaging and interactive digital lesson, the learners receive direct instruction and practice in keyboarding the letters A, B, C, D, and E as they locate and type the letters, recognize the letter sounds, and learn the relationship between the letters on the keyboard and on the screen.
3-5 practiced Hardware Fundamentals: Network Basics
The learners receive direct instruction and practice with networking concepts, such as LANs, WANs, and file format compatibility. They gain knowledge about how to use remote equipment and review intellectual property in this engaging and interactive digital lesson.

This week in PE, we are doing relay races to work on our fundamentals and teamwork.

STEM II
Greetings,
K-1: Completed their balloon characters and will be learning how to code Busy Bee robots to have them transport their balloons along the parade path.
2-3: Demonstrated their understanding of how to make the Sphero Indi’s move in the directions indicated. They will design their balloons next and attach it to the Sphero Indi’s to travel the parade route.
4: Completed their hiking backpack project and had their introduction to Balloons Over Broadway project. They will be designing and creating a parade float out of a shoebox with their group. The next step is deciding on a theme for the float and planning the design for the theme.
5: They have successfully agreed upon a theme for their floats and the items that they want to include on the float and the materials that they will need to create it. Next step is to create! I can’t wait to see their floats begin to come to life!
Counselor's Corner!
Hey there, CMIT NES Families! Our K-2 students just wrapped up some awesome lessons on emotions and feelings with the school counselor and now it's time for 3rd through 5th grade to dive in! We're all about recognizing and expressing our BIG emotions in a healthy way. From practicing deep breathing to learning how to talk about what we feel, these sessions will help students navigate anything that comes their way. Get ready to explore how we can calm our minds, take deep breaths, and understand the power of expressing our emotions!
