Apply now for free or reduced-priced breakfast and lunch this school year
For the past two years we did not charge students for school meals due to federal waivers related to the COVID pandemic. That has ended now, and this school year we again have prices for student to eat breakfast and lunch.
You may qualify for free or reduced-price meals!
Schools are required to serve meals at no charge to children whose household income is at or below 130 percent of the federal poverty guidelines. Children may pay a reduced price if their household income is above 130 percent but at or below 185 percent of these guidelines. Children are automatically eligible for free school meals if their household receives food stamps, benefits under the Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations or, in most cases, benefits under the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program.
Complete and submit an application for free or reduced-price breakfast and lunch.
Reduced-price meals are 30 cents for breakfast, 40 cents for lunch. Families qualify based on their household income. See if you qualify and apply now at https://cdaschoolsnutrition.com

Elementary student reading and math growth last year
Over a year, we watch our students grow through assessments given in three intervals. These assessments allow us to monitor each student's growth toward meeting/exceeding standards and receive support when needed. Here's a summary of growth in our elementary schools in the 2021-2022 school year, as compared with national norms:

Attention all bus riders: Register for your route starting Wednesday
All students using bus transportation need to be registered by a parent or guardian. You can register your student beginning Wednesday, August 17th, by visiting our Transportation Department at www.cdaschools.org/transportation. There will be one registration form for kindergarteners and one for all other students. You also can find our bus safety rules there.
BEFORE YOU BEGIN: You first will need to look up your student's bus route number and stop location to complete the registration form. To look up the route and bus stop for your home address, please use our InfoFinder guide.
All kindergarten students who ride the bus need to have an adult meet them at the bus stop for drop-off each day.
Support our students at the Sept. 17 Color Run, benefitting Sources of Strength
The Sources of Strength Color Run is back again! This is a fun 1.5-mile fun run/walk open to all, and it promotes healthy and happy living for our kids. The Color Run will be Saturday, September 17th, at 10 AM at the Kootenai County Fairgrounds.
It's FREE for anyone 18 and under; $15 for adults. All proceeds benefit our incredible Sources of Strength program in the school district. Begin wearing white clothing and allow yourself to be dusted with organic, biodegradable chalk along the way!
Sources of Strength is a program where kids from all walks of life create a culture within their school that empowers change. This dynamic club is student-led and assists in helping all students find their personal strength through a message of hope, health and strength.
The Coeur d’Alene School District adopted this way of thinking in our secondary schools. Lake City, Coeur d’Alene and Venture high schools as well as Canfield, Lakes and Woodland middle schools have all embraced this way of life. We are integrating the program into our elementary schools, too.
Our students are doing some phenomenal things within their buildings. From campaigns focusing on healthy activities and finding a mentor, to being thankful and encouraging greatness within our peers. Sources of Strength peer leaders continue to impress. They are truly shouting from the rooftops with excitement.
Meet the Machines Sept. 17 at the Kootenai County Fairgrounds
The Lake City High School French Club invites local kids and families to interact with big machines of all kinds, including fire trucks, police cars, utility trucks, tractors, semis, UTVs, cement mixers and more!
This event, which coincides with the Color Run, will be Saturday, September 17th, at 10 a.m. in the parking lot of the Kootenai County Fairgrounds.
We are looking for people interested in displaying any cool vehicle or tractor.
If your business has interesting machinery, vehicles or tools to display, we'd love to hear from you. Contact James Maurer at jmaurer@cdaschools.org
Haircuts for kids helps fight hunger in our community
Cut Kids' Hunger raises money for the Coeur d'Alene Backpack Program, which makes sure school-age children whose families may be experiencing financial hardship have nutritious food over weekends and holiday breaks.
The next Cut Kids' Hunger event is Sunday, August 21st, beginning at 10 a.m. at Voiage Salon, 754 N. Fourth St., Coeur d'Alene. For each kids' haircut (up to age 12), $15 will be donated to the CdA Backpack Program. By appointment only.
The Backpack Program serves students at all 11 of our elementary schools, and at Lakes and Canfield middle schools. Volunteers with the backpack program quietly supply over 400 students with packs of food each Friday during the school year. Students go home with a bag filled with non-perishable, child-friendly, nutritious food for the weekend. This is accomplished in partnership with Second Harvest, Lake City Church, and Lake City Community Food Bank.
