Message from Principal Wadkins
The weather forecast for this week does indicate chances of snow. Please make sure you are receiving information from PPS about any inclement weather late starts or closures. These will be sent out using Remind. Additionally, news outlets also publish this information.
The modernization of Cleveland, Jefferson and Ida B. Wells continues to be featured in the news with a story running on KOIN 6 last week and an editorial in OregonLive from their editorial board. The agenda of the February 4 PPS School Board Meeting includes a discussion of the HS cost comparison that was completed by Cornerstone which has also recently been highlighted in the news. I have no update for when we will be engaging again with the Design Advisory Group (DAG) in continuing the design process for Cleveland.
Finally, I'd like to highlight the wonderful achievements of our students and staff. This past week our theater students competed in a regional competition. This is from Michael Payne, our theater director:
A big congratulations to Cleveland Theatre for sweeping the Oregon Regional Acting Competition for the third year in a row. The Company of Warriors earned more Regional Finalist (top 20%) awards; as well as, more state qualifiers (top 10%) than any other PPS or Northwest Oregon school. Students won in monologues, comical duo scenes, dramatic duo scenes, theatre dance, solo musical and playwriting. Cleveland had the largest group of entries, 56 participants. Cleveland Theatre continues to BE HEARD, SEEN and BRAVE.

FAMILIES & COMMUNITY
Community Budget Forum Invite
As we navigate an important and challenging moment in our district’s budget planning, we want to ensure that our community has a voice in the process. We invite you to join Superintendent Dr. Armstrong and senior district leaders for a Community Budget Forum to discuss the initial budget recommendations for 2025-26 and the potential impacts on our schools.
Budget Overview & Resources
The initial proposed reductions have been shared with the Board of education and reflect the difficult choices we face. While this is a preliminary proposal, your voice remains essential in shaping the final budget recommendations.
To ensure transparency and ongoing dialogue, we are providing the following resources:
Budget Overview Presentation – A summary of the key reductions and financial outlook.
Budget Engagement Feedback Form – Your feedback is essential; please share your insights as we refine these recommendations.
Community Budget Forum
Date: Wednesday, February 5th
Time: 6:00pm – 7:00pm
Location: Virtual (Zoom)
Join via Zoom: https://bit.ly/PPSCommunityBudgetForum2025
