Federal Impact Aid Forms
The Federal Impact Aid process is currently underway. The pre-printed Impact Aid forms went home with students this week. This process documents the families that live or work on federal properties. Collecting this information allows the district to receive funding from the Federal Government to support the teaching and learning of our students.
We appreciate everyone completing these and returning them to our school.
Congratulations to the first 3 classes to have all of the Impact Aid Survey's returned:
1. Mrs. Salmon's Class
2. Mrs. Ramirez's Class
3. Mrs. Dobbins' Class
PTO Informational Meeting
McAuliffe families, staff and community,
We would like to provide you with an important update regarding the ongoing IRS issue that has affected our school community. We understand the concerns this matter has caused and want to assure you that we are actively working to resolve the situation as quickly and efficiently as possible. To keep everyone informed and provide further clarity on the steps being taken, we will be holding an informative meeting where we will discuss the issue in detail, outline the work that has been done and steps being taken to fix it, and answer any questions you may have.
Meeting Details:
• Date: Wednesday October 16th
• Time: 5:30
• Location: school MPR
We highly encourage all parents to attend, as this meeting will provide essential information about the resolution process and what you can expect moving forward. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work through this issue. Your continued support means a great deal to us, and we look forward to addressing any concerns during the meeting.
At this meeting we will also be holding an election for PTO board members which is needed to become active again and start supporting our school for fundraising opportunities, teacher grants, and field trips. If you are interested in running for a position please join us at the meeting for open nominations Or email: McAuliffe.pto.president@gmail if you are interested. Elections will be held right after information meeting.
Calling All Bicycle Enthusiasts!
Dear Families,
We are reaching out to see if anyone in our school community has experience working on bicycles. Our school’s 4th and 5th grade bike program has several bikes in need of repairs, and we would love some extra hands to help get them back in working order. If you have bike repair skills and are willing to assist, please contact Coach Ward. Your help would be greatly appreciated and will ensure that our students can continue enjoying this wonderful program!
Thank you for your support!
Audio Enhancement Program
Oceanside Unified is utilizing a state-of-the-art cloud-based camera system across our schools. This new camera system combines machine learning and artificial intelligence to deliver actionable insights from video data, significantly enhancing our campus security.
Installations will soon begin over the next few weeks and have been successfully completed at a number of other schools across OUSD, including two successful pilot schools last year.
McAuliffe will use an advanced-technology system that offers a variety of benefits including enhanced accessibility of the instruction being delivered, and the capability to deliver an emergency notification system to every classroom.
This enhancement serves as an update to our current bell and intercom system. Each classroom teacher will have a device on a lanyard that amplifies sound throughout the
classroom during every lesson. Every student, no matter where they sit, will be able to clearly hear the teacher and information being taught. In addition, the teacher has the option to use a classroom-installed camera to video record their lessons by pressing a button on the device, or to activate in the event of an emergency. This option allows the teacher to practice and improve instructional approaches by sharing with colleagues, as well as post lessons for students to
review if they missed a day of instruction.
Running Program Volunteers Needed
We are excited to share that the Miles of Smiles running program will start soon. During PE next week, Coach Ward will go over details and provide each student with their necklace and attached ID card. Starting the week of Monday, October 7th, students can do laps around the track before school (8:25-8:45), on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. TK & kindergarten students can participate so long as they are with a parent/guardian. Students need to make sure they are wearing their ID card that needs to get scanned in order to track their laps. Students will earn a foot charm after completing 12 laps (about 3 miles), among other charms, and those will be distributed monthly.
Great American Shake Out
On October 17th, families across the nation are invited to participate in the Great American ShakeOut, a nationwide earthquake drill designed to help people practice essential safety steps. It's a valuable opportunity to teach your loved ones how to "Drop, Cover, and Hold On," ensuring everyone is better prepared in the event of an earthquake. By joining millions of others in this important drill, your family will learn crucial survival skills while strengthening your overall emergency response plan. Don’t miss this chance to take part in a simple yet effective way to stay safe and ready for any potential disaster!
McAuliffe Elementary students and staff will be participating in the Great American Shake Out on October 17th.

Challenger Snack Shuttle
Exciting News! We are ecstatic to announce the opening of the Challenger Snack Shuttle, our school site food pantry! Food insecurity is an issue plaguing thousands of children in San Diego County and we are so excited to be tackling this issue. Please consider making a tax deductible donation and say that the Donation is for the McAuliffe Food Pantry. A little goes a long way so every penny counts! Please see the flyer belowfor more information.
OUSD District Cell Phone Policy
We are excited to share our new cell phone policy, "During the Day, Off and Away," for the 2024-2025 school year (Board Policy 5131.8). Our goal is to create a safe and focused learning environment for all students by minimizing distractions and promoting their mental well-being.
Key Points:
Cell Phone Usage: Students must turn off (ringer/tone/sounds off) and store their phones in their backpacks upon entering campus. Phones should stay off until they leave.
Exceptions: Students with specific accommodations (IEPs, 504 plans, or medical conditions) may have phone access as specified.
Communication: Classrooms have landlines for students to contact parents when necessary. Phones will be accessible in emergencies.
Academic Benefits: Reducing phone usage helps students stay focused and engaged in class.
Safety and Security: This policy helps prevent cyberbullying, ensures students focus during emergencies, and reduces the risk of theft or loss.
Support and disciplinary measures are in place for policy violations to help students adjust.
Thank you for your support as we work together to enhance our students' learning experience and well-being.

OUSD Chain of Communication
We know there are times when issues come up that need to be resolved. OUSD has created a chain of communication that allows for an efficient resolution process. This is now located on our school’s website under “Our School” called Chain of Communication
Blackboard Communication Platform
OUSD messages families using a platform called Blackboard Communications. This allows teachers and staff to send an email, text or voice message directly to the email address or phone number you have listed in Aeries. You no longer need to download any third party apps to receive messages from OUSD. The only district supported app that families should download is the OUSD app. It’s important that all the adults in your student’s life have updated contact information in Aeries so everyone can receive important messages from your student’s school.
