Hello Nixon Parents and Guardians,

It is hard to believe we are approaching the third week of May! The school year is drawing to a close, however, our scholars have a lot to accomplish before the end of our Summer Learning Program. Also, we have several upcoming events, please look at the calendar and plan accordingly.

Next, I would like to encourage families to continue monitoring scholar attendance. Learning is still occurring and scholars should be present. Our expectations for academics, appropriate behavior, and timely completion of assignments are still key priorities. As finishing the year strong is extremely important. Please remind scholars, their words and actions, both positive and negative, contributes to the overall atmosphere of Nixon Elementary School and we expect everyone to act in a way that is consistent with the trait of "respect". If you have any concerns, please do not hesitate to contact the school.

Lastly, we are extremely proud of our scholars and everything they have accomplished this school year, in spite of challenging situations. Thank you for the continued support you have shown our staff. At Nixon, we aim to continually ensure our scholars, parents, and community partners feel valued and included in our school community.

If you have not returned your Summer Learning Academy ("GOING FOR THE GOLD") invitations, please do so. The purpose of the summer learning academy is to extend the time many of our scholars need in order to master skills being worked on in their current grade. The instruction will help to maintain and sharpen many skills and concepts presented throughout the school year. The Summer Learning Academy- "GOING FOR THE GOLD" will run from June 3rd-27th, Monday through Thursday 7:30 until 3:00.

1. May 14th: 1st and 2nd Grade Honors Day (9:00 a.m.)

2. May 15th: 3rd and 4th Grade Honors Day (9:00 a.m.)

3. May 16th: 5th Grade Honors Day (9:00 a.m.)

4. May 17th: Field Day

5. May 20th: Kindergarten Promotion Ceremony (9:00 a.m.)

6. May 21st: Pre-K Celebration (9:00 a.m.)

7. May 23rd: Scholars Last Day/Report Cards

*Scholars are able to wear dress attire for each honors day celebration.

A teacher's job is not done when the bell rings at 3:00p.m. Teachers often go home to think about the next day's lesson, review papers, grade papers, enter grades into PowerSchool, and tailor lessons to ensure assignments are differentiated to meet the needs of all learners. I would like to personally express my gratitude and appreciation for all of our teachers and their diligent dedication and hard work to ensure each scholar at Nixon Elementary is afforded a high-quality education in a safe and nurturing environment.
