Library News - February is going to be a sweet month!!
Library Leaders: We are focusing on leadership in the library. Students who are identified as leaders, consistently show expectations (safe, respectful, responsible) independently. Leaders are given special privileges such as additional book checkout, exceptions to checkout rules, and first choice of library reading buddies, jobs, and special seating. Parents will be notified via parent square if your child is identified as a leader.
Contest Books: Our intermediate (2nd-5th grade) contest book challenge is in full swing. Students must read contest books and take an AR quiz to get them checked off to earn prizes. Students may read the books independently or with a parent. Congrats to Max in 5th grade who is the first student to read 9 contest books. He has earned an invite to a donut celebration in the spring. Please be sure to encourage your child to participate in this fun reading challenge.
February Celebrations and Book Suggestions: We will be celebrating black history month in the library. A special book display makes it easy for students to read books that feature African American leaders, history, and culture. Additional reading suggestions can be found on our library website.
Library Lessons: February library lessons will focus on nonfiction book searches, Destiny/Destiny Discover holds and account info, and research skills.
Book Check Out: Book checkout is as follows:
- Kindergarten- 1st grade: 2 books
- 2nd-3rd grade: 2-3 books
- 4th-5th grade: 3-4 books per week
All books are due one week after checkout. Each classroom teacher will have a library basket for book returns. Please remind your child to return their book to the basket by their next library visit. Students may renew books if they need more time to read them. They must bring the book to the library to get it renewed.
Overdue/Lost Books: It is important that students are responsible for their library materials. Lost or overdue books will result in limited checkout (1 book per week, must stay in class). It is important for students to talk to me in order to clear their account. If students are unable to pay the book replacement cost, they may clear their account by donating a gently used book to our library, or help out with a library job.
Library Web Page: Please be sure to visit the library web page for information, reading resources, library events, and more! The web page is updated frequently to reflect current library happenings.
If you have questions or would like more information, please feel free to contact me via email or dojo. Please do NOT leave a voice mail as I do not check voicemail regularly.
