PTO Fundraiser!
Dear Families and Community Members,
We are excited to announce our FOURTH annual HES PTO fundraiser with High Mowing Organic Seeds! Our PTO is organized for the purpose of supporting the education of children at HES by fostering relationships among the school, parents, teachers, and our community. HES PTO sponsored events include Movie Nights at Hancock Library, Ornament Day, Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Day, Teacher Appreciation Week, 4th Grade Moving Up Ceremony, and more! High Mowing Seeds are 100% organic and non-GMO, so while you are raising money for your school you are also supporting a healthy community and healthy planet. If gardening isn’t your thing, consider purchasing some as gifts for the gardeners in your life. The seeds will arrive in perfect time to start indoors or to direct seed in the spring.
Make your selections on the order form and return to the school with payments (cash or check) no later than Wednesday, March 5th. Order forms were sent home with students.
Please make checks payable to: Hancock PTO
Top earner from each class will receive gift certificate for one free ice cream at Tenney Farm!
For additional questions, please contact your fundraiser’s organizer: Stephanie Stahl (603) 562-9383 As a reminder, all orders need to be placed directly with your Fundraiser.

HES is seeking clothing donations to support students in need. We welcome new or gently used items such as coats, sweaters, pants, shirts, and shoes in all children’s sizes. These donations will help ensure that every student has access to comfortable and weather-appropriate clothing. If you would like to contribute, please drop off donations at the school office during regular hours. Thank you for your generosity and support!
Brrrr...
As we move into the winter months, we would like to remind our learners and their families that we will be going outside for recess except in cases of extreme cold or inclement weather!
Please make sure your student wears appropriate outerwear including coats, hats, mittens, and when the snow flies - snow pants and boots!!!
Music news from Ms. Neilssen
Kindergarten and 1st graders studied low and high in music. Bigger instruments have lower sounds, and smaller instruments have higher sounds! Ask your child to sing "Grandma's Glasses"!
The 1/2 class began learning about different rhythms within a steady beat.
Grade 3 did a lot of rhythm review with eighth notes and quarter notes. They are preparing their music reading skills for recorder!
4th graders got their recorders this week and we did a quick review from last year - they remembered a lot!
News from Miss Janice's Class
We have been waiting for some good snow for building snowmen and sledding. It looks like we might get more next week. Next Tuesday we will be learning about Winter Birds with our friend Jazzy from the Harris Center. Please make sure your child has all of their winter gear each day plus a pair of shoes for in the classroom.
News from Miss Kyleigh's Class
This week we had tons of fun in the fresh snow and learning about winter birds! The four we focused on were Blue Jay, Cardinal, Tufted Titmouse and Chickadee. Be sure to as your preschooler what birds we learned about and what color they all are. They have fabulous memories!
News from Ms. Goodington's Class
Another wonderful winter week in K/1! Kindergarten is working on reading words featuring the tricky /qu/ and added sight word you. Try to find these sounds and words in your nightly read-aloud together. In math, we have been noticing patterns and relationships between addition and subtraction problems. We have also been working hard on number path and hundred chart fluency. First-grade students have been reading and spelling words that end in es and ed. In math, they are continuing to build confidence in solving word problems while identifying different addition and subtraction strategies we have been practicing. Solar system science is still a favorite in both grades with lots of fun facts to share! Next week we will combine our knowledge of astronomy and meteorology for a special project!
News from Ms. Bushey's Class
February has brought lots of fun so far in third grade! We ended January with a fantastic lesson on energy with NHEEP. Students learned all about energy and experimented with what they learned! It was a great way to end the first month of 2025! As we entered February, we wrapped up our math unit on rounding. Students did very well rounding to the nearest hundred and ten! We have begun our final drafts of our narrative writes. It was great to practice the writing process. In literacy, we read our first three chapters of Adventures of Light and Sound, where we read about light, shadows, and mirrors. We have also worked hard on adverbs, long vowel spelling patterns, and determining author’s purpose in texts. We look forward to what the rest of February will bring us!
News from Ms. Lamere's Class
This week 4th graders have been working to finish their New Hampshire mammal project. They have picked a mammal to research and then used google slides to create a brochure. Last week in science, we had NHEEP where they explored how heat transfers and explored different insulation materials. We also explored reptiles with Ms. Susie. In literacy this week, we learned about generalizing, subject-verb agreement, and our spelling focus was the vowel sound in shout. In math, we worked with the metric system and converted different larger units into smaller units. We will be ready to take our section B check in next week.
