Intro to K-3 Essential Instructional Practices 2024-2025 Offerings
Join Dr. Bridget Regan for this Fall 2024 workshop series showcasing the K-3 Literacy Essential Instructional Practices in partnership with COPESD. We will be covering all ten K-3 Literacy Essentials throughout the 2024-2025 school year. These sessions will be particularly helpful to brand new teachers or teacher new to using research/science informed practices in literacy.
Below you will find the dates, times, and registration links for all ten workshops. Please register for all workshops you would like to attend individually.
All sessions will be held virtually. One (1) SCECH credit available. You must sign-in with link provided at the time of the workshop and attend the entire hour workshop to earn credit.

6900 Intro to K-3 Essential 1: Motivation & Engagement
October 1, 2024 @ 4:30pm
Join us as we explore Essential 1 of the K-3 Essential Instructional Practices in Early Literacy. Discover ways in which the deliberate, research-informed efforts to foster literacy motivation and engagement within and across lessons can benefit all students. This session will be held virtually. These sessions are particularly helpful to brand new teachers, and/or teachers new to using research/science informed practices in literacy.

Join us as we explore Essential 2 of the K-3 Essential Instructional Practices in Early Literacy. Discover ways in which read-alouds can provide opportunities for meaningful discourse and benefit all students. This session will be held virtually. These sessions are particularly helpful to brand new teachers, and/or teachers new to using research/science informed practices in literacy.

Join us as we explore Essential 3 of the K-3 Essential Instructional Practices in Early Literacy. Discover ways in which small group and individual instruction can be used to meet the needs of diverse learners. Learn more about using a variety of flexible grouping strategies in order to ensure all children receive the support needed to become successful readers and writers. This session will be held virtually and would be particularly helpful for new teachers or teachers wanting to refresh their understanding of small group instruction.
6908 Intro to K-3 Essential 4: Phonological Awareness

Join us as we explore Essential 4 of the K-3 Essential Instructional Practices in Early Literacy. Learn why phonemic awareness is so important and how teachers can promote phonological awareness development, particularly phonemic awareness development, through explicit explanation, demonstration, play with sounds in words, and engaged study of words. This session will be held virtually and would be especially helpful for new teachers &/or teachers wanting to dig deeper into the understanding of foundational skills.

Join us as we explore Essential 5 of the K-3 Essential Instructional Practices in Early Literacy. Learn just how important it is to provide explicit instruction in letter sound relationships as we dive into the bullets of this important Essential Practice. This session will be held virtually and would be especially helpful for new teachers and/or teachers wanting to brush up their skills on phonics.

Join us as we explore Essential 6 of the K-3 Essential Instructional Practices in Early Literacy. Dive into the importance of research and standards-aligned writing instruction as we focus on this Essential Practice. This session will be held virtually and would be helpful for brand new teachers and teachers wanting to study research aligned practices in writing.

Find ways to be intentional and ambitious in your efforts to build vocabulary and content knowledge as we focus on this Essential Practice. This session will be held virtually and would be especially helpful for new teachers and/or teachers wanting to learn more about research-informed vocabulary instruction.

Join us as we explore Essential 8 of the K-3 Essential Instructional Practices in Early Literacy. Discover the importance of explicit and ambitious vocabulary instruction. This session will be held virtually and would be especially helpful for new teachers and/or teachers wanting to move away from “look up the list” vocabulary instruction. Although this is a K-3 essential, content could be applicable to Grades 4-5 as well.
7141 Intro to K-3 Essential 9: Assessment

Join us as we explore Essential 9 of the K-3 Essential Instructional Practices in Early Literacy. Discover the importance of explicit and ambitious vocabulary instruction. This session will be held virtually and would be especially helpful for new teachers and/or teachers wanting to move away from “look up the list” vocabulary instruction. Although this is a K-3 essential, content could be applicable to Grades 4-5 as well.
7024 Intro to K-3 Essential 10: Family & Community
December 4, 2024 @ 4:30pm
Join us as we explore Essential 10 of the K-3 Essential Instructional Practices in Early Literacy. Discover the importance of collaborating with families in order to promote literacy, as we dive into this Essential Instructional Practice. This session will be held virtually.
