St Charles Newsletter
25th October 2024
Message To Parents From Our Head Of School
Dear Parent/Carer,
I hope this week’s newsletter finds you and your family well, as this long half term ends and we prepare for a week’s break. I hope you find time to unwind too, despite having your child/ren at home with you!
We have lots of information to share with you in this newsletter, but here are a few things to highlight.
Remembering the Holy Souls in November
As October draws to an end, we said our last decade of the Rosary with KS2 today. However, please continue, if you are able, to pray the Rosary with your child/ren at home and discuss its importance to us as Catholics. When we come back we will be in November and remembering the souls of loved one who have passed away. You will have an opportunity when we return, to sign our ‘Book of Holy Souls’ and have your late loved ones prayed for during every assembly in November. Details will be sent in due course.
The Feast Day of St Charles
When we return on Monday 4th November, we will celebrate the Feast Day of St Charles Borromeo with a School Mass at St Pius X at 10am. You are warmly invited to join us as we honour our patron saint. The Chaplaincy have been busy planning this liturgy. A reminder that November 1st is All Saints Day and is a holy obligation. Please endeavour to bring your child/ren to mass on this day.
Wishing you a safe, happy and holy half term break.
Regards,
Tony Lynch

Gospel: Jesus heals a blind man (Mark 10:46-52)
Using the Wednesday Word link below, read this Sunday’s Gospel
and reflect on the questions below with your family.
You will have an opportunity to discuss them again after half term in School during the Gospel/Well done Assembly.
https://www.paperturn-view.com/uk/wednesday-word/messenger?pid=MTA101634&v=5.5
KS1
- What was the blind man doing?
- Why did the people tell him to be quiet?
- How do you think the blind man felt when Jesus gave him sight?
KS2
- Find Jericho on a modern map. What is the nearest sea? What’s the nearest city? Find something that happened in these places in the Bible?
- What was it that cured the man?
- What do you think the man did next? Do you think he stayed with Jesus? Explain.
Prayer Bear
Each week a different child in Nursey will take Polly, our Nursery Prayer Bear, home for the weekend.
Last weekend, Polly Bear enjoyed a wonderful time with Alice! They visited Our Lady Of Victories Church together, where they joined Alice's grandparents in celebrating a beautiful Sunday Mass.
We look forward to seeing where her adventures take her this weekend!
Attendance
Our whole school attendance is currently at 95.7%
We are working towards achieving 96% attendance this academic year. Please help us to achieve this by ensuring that your child attends school each day and by not booking any holiday during term time. Please be aware that holiday leave in term time cannot be authorised. There is strong correlation between good attendance and good progress. So together, let’s give our children the best possible chance of reaching their potential.
Year 6- Secondary Transfer
The date for submitting your application to the Town Hall in which you reside is October 31st.
Please make sure that you submit your application on time. You can select up to 6 schools. Please read the oversubscription criteria and choose wisely.
If you are selecting a faith school, you will also need to complete the supplementary information form and any other documents the school may require. These forms will need to be returned to the individual schools.
Please do not hesitate to contact the school for advice or support should you wish to do so.
