West Point El. Parent Update
Week of February 23, 2025
Dear West Point Families,
We hope you have been enjoying the weekend with your families.
We need to ask for your help! We have procedures in place for our morning drop off and afternoon pick up so everyone can be safe. However, we have had several incidents where students have been put at risk because procedures have not been followed. Please review the procedures below and help us out by following them. We know that safety is not always convenient, but it is vital for keeping all of our students, families, and staff safe. Thank you for your cooperation!
There are only 6 days left to complete our Evaluate Davis Parent Surveys. They can be found on your myDSD app. We don't always get a huge response on these surveys. However, this is one of the main ways we get feedback on how we're doing, and we hope you will take a few minutes to fill out these surveys for us.
Here are three important things to know for the coming week.
- Evaluate Davis Parent Surveys are available on your parent/guardian myDSD account and close this Friday, February 28. Instructions for accessing these surveys are provided below. We hope you will take a few minutes to share your feedback with us.
- The deadline for Kindergarten Priority Registration is also this Friday, February 28. If you or someone you know has a registration packet, we hope you will spread the word that we need them returned to the office by this Friday. Thank you!
- Heads up! Class pictures will be taken on Wednesday, March 5.
Sincerely,
Marjorie Conrad and Christie Bouy
Principal and Administrative Intern, West Point Elementary
We are asking everyone to review the following procedures for our morning drop off and afternoon pick up lane.
Please do not stop your car on the crosswalk. It is there to help students and parents cross safely.
Please cross at the crosswalk. Crossing in the parking lot encourages students to run out into the parking lot, and passing cars might not see them. On snowy days, the crosswalk is cleared along with the sidewalks so that students and parents can cross safely.
Always pull all the way forward in the drop off/pick up lane, and encourage your students to get out quickly. This courtesy helps the line of cars move quickly, efficiently, and safely. If you would like to drop off your student closer to the front of the school, please park, get out, and walk your student to their area.
Do not go around vehicles that are dropping off or picking up students, unless the crossing guard waves you to do so (which occasionally happens at the end of the day.) Please wait in line to drop off your student.

Congratulations to our grade-level spelling bee winners from last week's bee. They will be participating in the School Spelling Bee this week, and we wish them all the best of luck. We are very proud of them!
Celebrating Learning!
Mrs. MJ's class makes Cyclops origami eyes as part of their 6th grade Greek unit. 6th grade students have been exploring excerpts from The Odyssey by Homer. Specifically, students have been following Odysseus and his men as they discovered a mysterious cave on an island. Students analyzed the scene and inferred who the cave belongs to and how its owner might react to Odysseus' presence. The cave’s formidable inhabitant was none other than Polyphemus, a fearsome Cyclops.
2nd Grade Patriotic Program
Our 2nd grade students did a beautiful job singing patriotic songs and teaching us about our nation's symbols. Our district will be featuring pictures of their performance on an upcoming Facebook story. We will link their news story to our Facebook page as soon as it is available.

Magical Manners
This week's manner is "Try New Things." It can be hard to try something new knowing we might not be good at it. However, we won't ever get good at anything if we aren't willing to try and then keep practicing. Trying new things allows us to build confidence in our ability to persevere and learn new skills.

February's LETTERING Focus - C is for Confidence
This is our last week of our focus on CONFIDENCE. Our students have been working on activities throughout the month that help them understand what it is to be confident and to start to build that quality within themselves. Be sure to ask them about the things they are doing in their LETTERing books!
February Brag Tags
This is also our last week for students to earn their February attendance and reading brag tags. Please continue to encourage your students to earn their brag tags! Students can earn an attendance brag tag if they have 0-1 absences for the month. They earn their reading brag tag by reading at home at least 18 days during the month.

Attendance Adds Up
Please be aware of your students' attendance and help them to be at school every day. We understand that students who are sick need to be home. (Please see the above DSD Health Protocol.) However, missing a day of school here and there adds up quickly and puts students behind. Thank you for your support!
Kindergarten Priority Registration
Kindergarten Priority Registration for the 2025-26 school year is now underway through Feb. 28 in the Davis School District. Both full-day and half-day options are available. Please read the attached letter to incoming kindergarten parents. We would appreciate if you could let neighbors with incoming kindergarten students know that we are registering students now for next year. Registration packets are in the office and on our website. You can also click on the following link to list your student's name, and the office will contact you with registration information. https://forms.office.com/r/gaRFdZ8V6n
Thank you!
Evaluate Davis Parent Surveys
Evaluate Davis parent surveys are now open on your MyDSD account through February 28. We hope you will take a minute to fill out these surveys and let us know how we are doing. We value your feedback!

Language Immersion Opportunities
The dual-language immersion application is live for the upcoming school year. We are fortunate to have two dual-language immersion schools in our community. Syracuse Elementary offers Chinese, and Buffalo Point Elementary offers Spanish.
If your child will be a first-grader next year, you might want to consider applying for dual-language immersion. Students entering higher grades may be eligible but must pass a language test. You can access the application and information about dual-language immersion at the following link. https://www.davis.k12.ut.us/o/dsd/page/elementary-dual-language-immersion
