Principal's Message
Dear CompSci Middle Community,
It was nice to see some of you today as you came in to pick up the items from our Fall Fundraiser. We made over $5000 in profit and that money goes directly into our afterschool programming, so thank you! As you know, we have more than half of our students stay after school for either clubs or athletics, and this money helps provide materials, staffing and transportation. Every little bit helps improve our offerings.
This week went by so fast, and the kids were looking good. The biggest highlight was our 8th grade students had a trip this week up to CompSci High where they worked the high school students on creating websites for non-profits. It was great to see the younger and older kids working together.
Next week we have our Annual All School Trip to the Hartford wolfpack game. If your child is going on the trip, please make sure they dress accordingly on Tuesday. We are walking to the XL Center and it will also be cool inside the arena. Long pants, sneakers and coats are the best idea. If your child is not going they will ahve work to do with the teachers who stay back, should you choose to send them to school.
Next week we also have a band concert on Thursday, 11/21. We are asking families who are able to bring a donation for a food drive to benefit the Chrysalis Center in Hartford. you can also send in items during the week. We will have a PTO meeting for all interested parents before that at 6:00. Even if you missed the last meeting, please feel free to come to this one. In the meeting we will be talking about PTO leadership and upcoming volunteer opportunities, so I hope to see you there.
Enjoy the weekend,
Jill Wnuk
Principal
The band and orchestra concert is Thursday, November 21st at 7PM! All 6th, 7th, and 8th grade band or orchestra students are required to perform. Musicians arrive at 6PM in their dress (white on top, black on bottom, nice shoes) and the Great Hall will be open to the public at 6:45. Everyone is welcome to enjoy some excellent music performed by our hardworking musicians. There is no charge for admission and the show will last about one hour. If there are questions, contact Mr. Yuscavage at byuscavage@crec.org

SOAR CORNER
At CompSci we are recognizing the amazing students in various ways throughout the course of the year. S.O.A.R is our mantra in our building and we discuss S.O.A.R throughout the day. S.O.A.R stands for Showing Leadership, Embracing Opportunities, Excellence in Academic Achievement and Demonstrating Resiliency.
Each Mindset Cycle we recognize students with S.O.A.Ring Eagle Cards, S.O.A.Ring to Success Certificates and Regal Eagle Mindset Awards. Parents and guardians also note that each team is also recognizing students in various ways throughout the year as well. Moving forward at the end of each cycle we will be sharing the names of the S.O.A.Ring to Success Certificate Winners and the Regal Eagle Mindset Winners.

CREC’s Statement of Diversity and Inclusion
“Capitol Region Education Council (CREC) is an intentionally diverse social justice organization whose members work to acknowledge, respect, and empathize with people of all different identifiers, such as race, socioeconomic status, gender identity and expression, education, age, ability, ethnicity, culture, sexual orientation, language, nationality, and religion. In accordance with CREC’s mission of equity, excellence, and success for all through high-quality educational services, our staff and students commit to participate in and support ongoing equity and inclusion programming through curricular and co-curricular offerings, professional learning, and local and national partnerships. Moreover, CREC staff and students strive to understand and confront the symptoms and causes of systematic oppression—ranging from implicit biases to micro aggressions to discriminatory policies, practices and traditions—that benefit privileged groups. While at CREC, staff and students commit to affirm and honor the lived experiences of others, to willingly challenge inherited beliefs and ideologies, and consequently learn, grow, and serve.”
