Bringing Out the Best Character Education Program
For the month of September, we will be focusing on the character trait Concern for the Common Good as we Bring Out the Best in CFISD. Concern for the Common Good is serving and supporting all. You can also find a Home Connection Activity for your family to do at home below.
Counselors Corner
Requests for Teachers to Complete Paperwork for Outside Sources
(Rating Scales, Observations, Areas of Strengths/Weaknesses)
In order for teachers to fill out forms or other information needed for outside sources (doctors, psychologists, agencies, private schools, taekwondo, tutors, etc.), we must have a release of information (consent) form from the parent. Parents may request the permission form from the counselor or through the teacher. A new permission form needs to be filled out each school year.
Once the permission form is completed and returned, the teachers may fill out the requested paperwork. At Sampson, we follow the CFISD’s procedure to send the paperwork directly to the outside source (doctors, psychologists, agencies, private schools, taekwondo, tutors etc.) via fax or mail. If the parent chooses for the information to be mailed, an envelope (addressed to the outside source with postage attached) should be included with the paperwork provided by the parent.
These procedures are to ensure the student’s needs are addressed legally and ethically.
If you have questions regarding this process, please contact the counselor.
New Student Lunches
Students (1st grade-5th grade) who are new to Sampson will be receiving an invitation for a “Lunch Bunch” with the counselors. Invitations will be sent home with students by the end of next week.
Anti-Victimization Notification
You should have received an email notification from CFISD’s Guidance and Counseling Department regarding Anti-Victimization lessons.
The elementary school curriculum will use WHO (We Help Ourselves), developed by the Association of Mental Health America of Greater Dallas. All materials are designed to meet student needs and are age-level appropriate. Materials used in each lesson can be viewed on the CFISD Guidance and Counseling web page at https://www.cfisd.net/Page/8799. Specific instructions for viewing the materials in person, if desired, will be located on the same web page under the “Anti-Victimization Curriculum” heading.
At least 14 days prior to the lessons being taught, a notification will be sent asking for students to either “opt-in” or “opt-out” of instruction. Should you decide to not allow your student to attend these informative sessions, an alternate plan will be created by the campus staff. There is no disciplinary action or academic penalty imposed.
CFISD is committed to the safety of all students.
The next viewing for parents at MHAB is September 21 @ 5pm.

Notes from The Nurse
CLINIC VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!!!
Parents,
Please consider becoming a volunteer in the clinic at Sampson for the 2023-2024 school year. The School Nurse needs help with filing, inventory checks, data collection for reports, labeling, alphabetizing or just being a 2nd pair of hands passing out cold packs, band aids or taking temperatures. Currently, we have regularly scheduled spots open or your name can be added to our sub list. There are so many benefits to assisting in the Sampson clinic. If interested, please contact Leslie Latham, Clinic Volunteer Coordinator, at Leslielatham13@gmail.com . The added care you can give students means a lot!
