Hello JES Family!
Well, I had this all prepped and ready last night and then today happened! And what a day it was! I love how this community comes together when a crisis arises. Today could have been so much more stressful, but thanks to everyone in this community - from our parents to our Southlake Emergency Responders, to our school trustees, to our teachers, to our administration, to our support staff - we all came together to take care of our kids and each other. I think days like today we truly see what it means to be Dragons and I am so proud to be a part of this beautiful family. Thank you for your support today and every day!
We kicked off the week with our 4th graders leading the pledges, Dragon Code, and presenting information about our school and Kindness Ambassador program at the Board of Trustees meeting Monday night. Ms. Campbell's 4th grade class also gave an outstanding ukulele performance, and JES's own Lori Heil was recognized as the CISD Super Substitute Teacher of the Month. Our kids did an amazing job representing our school and I am so excited that Mrs. Heil received much deserved recognition for the work she does supporting our teachers when they are out! Thank you Mrs. Heil, and all of our substitutes, for all you do to support our campus.
On Tuesday, our 3rd & 4th grade students took the STAAR Math assessment and enjoyed a delicious pancake breakfast prepared and served by our JES Dads Club. Thank you dads for your servant hearts and to our kids for their amazing focus and hard work on these state assessments! Tuesday night our absolutely amazing JES Honor Choir rocked the house at the Carroll Youth Music Festival. I am so proud of the hard work these students put in every week and for the time and love our Music Teacher, Ms. Cornish, pours into our kids! It was a special night to say the least!
We also had the honor Thursday of hosting the Elementary/Intermediate Orchestra Spring Performance. It was so fun seeing and hearing how far these young musicians have progressed over the school year.
Last but certainly not least, our students and staff are finishing the year off strong, focused on academics and on fun. This is such a special time of year and I hope you all enjoy it!

We are excited for our upcoming JES Field Day, which will take place on Friday, May 16th. It takes all of our staff and many volunteers to make sure that this experience is amazing for our kids.
WE NEED YOUR HELP! If you have the time on the 16th, please consider signing up for a timeslot or two. More information about Field Day can be found by clicking on this link. Please remember, volunteers must have completed the CISD Volunteer Application (Emma in the front office can check this for you).
Pre-K Expanding to Walnut Grove Elementary
CISD announced this week that we will be expanding Pre-K classes for 4-year-olds to include Walnut Grove Elementary. There were reports on social media that JES would have Pre-K next year, but those reports are not true. JES will NOT have Pre-K classes on campus for the 2025-2026 school year.
More information about Pre-K at WGES:
- Priority Enrollment: First opportunities to enroll at Walnut Grove will go to:
- CISD employees with incoming Pre-K 4 students,
- Current Pre-K 3 students living in the WGES or JES attendance zones, and
- Students accepted during March enrollment who live in the WGES or JES zones.
- Waitlist Enrollment: Once those priority groups are placed, spots will be offered to students on the Pre-K 4 waitlist. Placement will be based on the time and date of application, as well as each student’s priority status. These openings may be at OUES, RES, CES, or WGES, depending on availability.
- Next Steps: The CISD prekindergarten specialist will contact all families who:
- Live in the WGES or JES attendance zones, and
- Are currently on the Pre-K 4 waitlist.
Please contact Mary Davis at mary.davis@southlakecarroll.edu with any questions about Pre-K.

4th Grade Tour of DIS Set for May 15th
As part of our efforts to support a smooth transition from JES to DIS, our 4th-grade students will be visiting DIS on Thursday, May 15th for a campus tour. This visit will provide students with an opportunity to become familiar with their future school, meet key staff members, and learn about the expectations and opportunities awaiting them next year.
During the visit, students will:
- Take a guided tour of the DIS campus
- Learn about daily routines, schedules, and important locations (cafeteria, library, gym, etc.)
- Meet some of the teachers and staff who will be supporting them in 5th grade
- Hear from current EIS students about their experiences and advice for a successful transition
This visit is a great opportunity to ease any worries and get our students excited about this next step in their educational journey!
