From the desk of Principal, Dr. Roche:
Dear Parents and Guardians,
As we approach the final days of the school year, I want to take a moment to reflect on just a few of the incredible accomplishments of our students and staff.
This spring, our Baseball Team brought home a State Championship—our first this century! Their perseverance, teamwork, and leadership both on and off the field have made the entire Bulldog community proud.
We also celebrated an impressive milestone: our seniors were awarded over $275,000 in scholarships from local community partners alone. This speaks to the strength of our students and the continued investment and belief from our greater Mount Vernon community.
Our Evening of Excellence showcased the accomplishments of so many students, our drama club performed a thoroughly fun and entertaining Clue, and our instrumental and vocal music concerts have been nothing short of outstanding—highlighting the creativity and dedication that make our school truly special.
Looking ahead, Graduation is Thursday, June 12. We are excited to celebrate this important milestone with our seniors and their families. A reminder: students must meet all graduation requirements and be in good standing to participate. Please make sure any outstanding fees or fines are resolved, and review the Graduation Guide to ensure a smooth and joyful ceremony.
Thank you for your continued support this year. We look forward to ending the year strong and celebrating all that our students have accomplished.
Go Bulldogs!
Congratulations to our MVHS Baseball State Champions!!
From the desk of your MVHS Librarian:
SENIORS! Return all items so you can graduate.
It's time to find all those library books, textbooks, calculators, cameras, and instruments. Bring them to the MVHS Library! You won't be able to participate in graduation or get your diploma until you have returned everything and paid for any last fees/fines. Don't wait until the final minute…
Do you need to keep your chromebook or a textbook for finals? No problem. Simply turn them in as soon as your class is all finished during final checkout.
GRADES 9, 10, 11 – Bring back your materials by June 18 to avoid fees/fines.
For all returning students, please drop off your library books, textbooks and other class materials by the last day of school. Any unreturned books or materials will be assessed a fine for replacement.
Students returning next year do NOT need to turn in their chromebook.
Want to know what you have checked out? Login to MVHS Destiny (with your school gmail) and click on "My Info" for a list of current checkouts, overdue and lost/missing items. You can also stop by the MVHS Library and ask Mr. Fisher for help.

June 12th- Women Veterans Recognition Day
June 12th is Women Veterans Recognition Day. The national movement for Women Veterans Day started 2008, and in Washington State, Senate Resolution 8653, sponsored by State Senators Emily Randall and T'wina Nobles, was passed on February 17, 2022, recognizing June 12th as Women Veterans Day. Former State Governor Jay Inslee then issued a proclamation designating June 12, 2022 as Washington State's "very first Women Veterans Day." We continue this proud recognition each year and would like to give a big shout-out and thank you to all of the Women Veterans in our families and community. A special thank you goes out to our very own math teacher, Ms. Thogersen, for her service in the Navy from 1992 to 1998 as an Aviation Electronics Technician!

MVHS Teacher Preparation Program for High School Students
MVHS Teacher Preparation Program for High School Students
If you are interested in pursuing a career in the field of education, Careers in Education is the place for you! This is more than a class - it is a supportive program within a class that helps students learn why to pursue a career in education and how to do it! This is a "grow your own" teacher preparation program offered to grades 10-12 who are interested in a career in the field of education. Students will have the chance to be placed in an internship with elementary or middle school teachers and will work cooperatively in their mentor teachers' classrooms during our class time to assist younger students with their education. Students will also have the chance to take the Paraprofessional Exam, which combined with being 18 years of age and graduating high school will make them hireable as a Paraeducator in Washington State Schools. Hands-on college advising and support is provided throughout the pathway, with additional guidance from our Maestros Para el Pueblo advisors from Skagit Valley College and Western Washington University. Sign up for Careers in Education during registration. If you already signed up for classes and would like to make a schedule to change to add this, talk to Mr. Hand and your counselor. See or email Mr. Hand for more information. rhand@mvsd320.org
Message From Your Counselors:
The MVHS Counseling website provides resources and information to our students and families at MVHS.
For the last few weeks of the school year, the School Counseling team will be working to support seniors with graduation 🎓🎉 and starting to schedule students for next year. Counselors will respond to all inquiries as quickly as possible, and we thank you in advance for your patience during this busier than usual time. Class schedules for 2025-26 will be available in Skyward in late August, a day or two before the new school year starts.
The Running Start Information webpage helps you navigate the application process. If you have questions please reach out to your primary school counselor. We encourage all students to begin the process by early April, in order to complete the process before the end of this school year.
- Important note: Skagit Valley College only has two more new student advising/registration sessions before the end of this school year! Those dates are May 29th and June 9th. New Running Start students need to be registered for fall quarter classes at SVC, before MVHS leaves for summer break on June 18th.
For rising 11th & 12th grade students interested in applying to the Northwest Career and Technical Academy (NCTA), be sure to complete your NCTA application as soon as possible, as space is limited! For more information please view our MVHS NCTA FAQs and the 2025-26 NCTA Programs Flyer.

What is Canvas
We are excited to have deployed Canvas to secondary students as our new learning management system. Canvas will act as a central location for communication, coursework, assignments, and grades. As a parent, you play an essential role in your student’s education, and Canvas will provide you with the ability to stay informed and engaged in their learning.
How to get Connected
- You will receive an email titled “Finish Registration: Canvas” from Canvas at the email address registered in Skyward. Please check your spam/junk folder if you do not see the email.
- The email will provide you with steps to get logged in with your new Canvas Parent account.
- If you do not receive the communication, your email in Skyward may need to be updated. Please reach out to your student’s school front office, and they will assist you in updating your information.
Alternative Pathway to get Connected
If you are unable to access your Canvas parent account through the email invitation, you can create an account using a pairing code provided by your student.
To Create an Account Using a Pairing Code:
- Have your student log into Canvas.
- Click on Account > Settings.
- Select “Pair with Observer” to generate a unique code.
- Use the code to create a parent account by visiting https://mvsd.instructure.com/login/canvas and selecting “Parent of a Canvas User? Click Here for an Account.”
Already Using Canvas?
If you’re already set up with Canvas in the Mount Vernon School District, you shouldn’t experience any changes as we continue our implementation.
MVHS Closed Campus Policy
What Does the Closed Campus Policy Mean?
In line with Mount Vernon School District Board Policy 3242, students are required to remain on campus from the time they arrive until the end of the school day, including during lunch. As a reminder, this policy has always been in effect and is supported by RCW 28A.225.010, which mandates student attendance throughout the school day.
Exceptions:
- If a student needs to leave campus for a valid reason, such as a medical appointment, a parent or guardian must notify the school office in advance.
- Only those students with prior administrative or parental permission will be excused from the campus during school hours.
Consequences for Violations:
- Students who leave campus without permission will receive a Saturday School.
- Repeated violations will result in escalating disciplinary actions, including suspension.
How You Can Help:
- Reinforce the policy at home: Please discuss with your child the importance of staying on campus during the school day and the potential consequences of leaving without permission.
- Plan ahead: If your child has an appointment or another reason to leave campus, notify the school office ahead of time to avoid any confusion or disciplinary issues.
This policy is crucial in creating a safe, structured environment where students can focus on their education. Your support in communicating and upholding this policy is key to its success.
Thank you for partnering with us to ensure a safe and positive school environment for all students.
