Thanksgiving Break
As we begin this Thanksgiving break (there is no school November 23 to December 1), the staff at Snail Lake wish to extend our gratitude to you for your partnership so far this year. As the African proverb states, "It takes a village to raise a child", we honor that parenting and teaching young kids is hard work. Thank you for your collaboration, communication and dedication to partnership to ensure the best learning experience for each child. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving break!
CELEBRATE!!
Congratulations to all Snail Lake students! Over the course of the past 2 weeks, our students have moved their bodies over 56,000 minutes and have raised over $5,400 for our school! CONGRATULATIONS! Thank you also to our families and community for encouraging our students to move their body and for your generous donations to our school! At our "Favorite Color Day" assembly this morning, we not only talked about favorite colors but we announced that each classroom has earned an extra recess or choice time and a future PJ Day! We will have a special reward PJ day on Friday, December 6! (We will also have a PJ day on Friday, December 20 for our school assembly and school spirit day.)
Scholastic Book Fair Success
Our Scholastic Book Fair was a huge success! By shopping at the fair, Snail Lake families were able to raise enough funds to purchase approximately 90 new books for our school library. We also raised over $130 to purchase books for families in need. Thank you for supporting our school library!
Mark your calendars for our next book fair on February 20 & 25.
Gingerbread House Event
December 17, 18, or 19, your student’s class will be having their gingerbread house event in our cafeteria. Teachers have sent out further information on this event including an RSVP for one parent to attend with each child that includes a background check. At this time, we have a large number of parents who have not yet completed the background check or RSVP's to the event. Please review this link to RSVP. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeQ3gQ8u7-FoY8p-U-uDGZWuT0J9KJpTzCKA3zp7XA8WbsnPw/viewform
Winter Weather Reminders
In the event that severe winter weather causes poor road conditions or dangerous cold, the District may announce school cancellations. All families will receive a text, voicemail and e-mail message within 20 minutes of a decision to close school. If you haven’t received these messages, a decision to close or delay school has not been made, and schools are expected to be in session as usual. Always assume schools are in session, unless you hear or see differently from Mounds View Public Schools. Learn more at: https://www.mvpschools.org/about/news/winter-weather-reminders
Early Childhood Clothing Drive
The weather is changing and winter is practically here. You can help share warmth with people in need in our school community! Mounds View Early Childhood will be holding a Coat and Winter Gear Drive and will be collecting items through December 6th.
Here is how you can help:
Donate gently used or new 3T, 4T, 5T, 6T, Youth Extra Small or Small winter coats, snow pants, and waterproof gloves or mittens. All items should be freshly washed, gently worn, or new. Please no holes, stains, or broken zippers. Items can be dropped off at the Snail Lake Office between November 18th-22nd and December 2nd-6th.
All coats collected will be distributed to families within our school community. If you are a family in need of winter gear this year for your child, please reach out to our dean, Lisa Strickland at 651-621-8020 or lisa.strickland@moundsviewschools.org.
Thank you for your support and generosity in helping us share warmth with children in need!
Did you know?
Of the five Standard Response Protocol (SRP) actions, HOLD is the most used. During a hold, students remain in classrooms and lessons continue.
Mounds View Public Schools uses common languages and practices throughout all buildings and with emergency responders. This simplified language, called Standard Response Protocol, proactively identifies five possible actions that could be required during an incident or an emergency. Learn more at mvpschools.org/srp.
Head Lice Information
We wanted to share a friendly reminder that head lice is unfortunately relatively common among elementary-aged students. We are not seeing a current increase in cases at this time, but we want to offer some reminders you can share with your children about how they can help prevent the spread. Encourage avoidance of direct head-to-head contact Discourage the sharing of hats, combs, brushes, headbands, etc. Frequently (weekly) check your child’s head for head lice For more information about how to identify, prevent and treat head lice,, you can check out these links: Thank you for your partnership!
Box Tops for Education
Snail Lake Kindergarten Center participates in Box Tops for Education. We would appreciate your support in earning funds for our school.
To get started:
- Download the app from your app store
- Complete Set Up and begin scanning receipts
It's a quick and easy way to help support our school!
In addition, this month's Box Tops monthly challenge asks participants to link their Wal-Mart account. Everyone who connects their accounts for the first time, now through 11/30, will earn 50 Bonus Box Tops ($5) for our school. We really appreciate your support!
News from the Library
Make time to read with your child during Thanksgiving break. Reading only 20 minutes a day has shown to improve academic ability, build empathy, and increase overall happiness in students of all ages.

Kowalski's Groceries for Good Causes
Snail Lake Kindergarten Center is a participant in the Groceries for Good Causes program at the Kowalskis in Shoreview. The Groceries for Good Causes program allows shoppers to choose which neighborhood organizations matter most to them. Simply drop your grocery receipt in one of the bins to "vote" for the organization you'd like to support, and Kowalski's will donate a percentage of their quarterly charitable giving budget based on the number of receipts in each box.
