Procedure Update: Personal Devices 📱
Proper Use of SmartPhones, Watches, etc.
Parents and guardians:
You may be aware the the Board of Education recently updated our policies regarding student use of personal electronic devices, such as smart phones, smart watches, etc. We are increasingly concerned about the distractions, disruptions, and disrespect that use of these devices leads to, and the effects on our students' health and learning.
In the coming days we will be putting out detailed information to you and your NFHS students regarding what has changed in the policy.
You can be supportive now by reminding your students of these key points:
- Use of these devices is not permitted during class time.
- Devices must be stored in the pre-determined location at all times during class
- Devices are only allowed to be used during study hall and lunch
- Students may not take phones to the bathroom
- Refusal to turn over phones and insubordination toward staff members will not be tolerated and will result in consequences for the student
- If students repeatedly violate the policy, parents/guardians will need to come to school to pick up the device, and students will lose the privilege of bringing the device to school.
The new policy and enforcement consequences will take effect on October 28th.
Class Act Spectator Statement
The student-athletes of the 2024-2025 Class Act Council created the statement below, which will be displayed at NFHS's home venues. Our students recognize that positive fan support is important to their success, and want to be sure that our spectators represent our school as well as they do. As we have exciting late-season contests and playoffs coming for several of our teams, please read and understand the statement our students need us all to adhere to!
New Fairfield High School expects all spectators to maintain dignity and stay composed
throughout the duration of all athletic contests.
Competition is meant for the enjoyment of coaches, officials, spectators, and student-athletes.
We encourage you to positively support your team to create an inclusive atmosphere for all!
