Fifth Grade Clap Out
Rain or Shine
Thursday, June 20, 2024 12:45 PM
Please line the sidewalk to clap out our 2024 fifth graders. The fifth grade
students will begin at the entrance of the school, travel down the
sidewalk, and meet their families at the end of the sidewalk near the
parking lot entrance.
So that you are ready to celebrate each individual student, Mrs. Nicolette,
Miss Smith, and Mrs. Sullivan, will announce every student’s name
before they travel down the sidewalk.
THank you Mr. Locke for a delicious Book Tasting!
Library News from Mr. Locke
In the final two weeks of library class,, students applied the lessons they learned about narrative, storytelling and genres by creating their own books and graphic novels online through a program called Book Creator. Students wrote their own stories and illustrated them through online image searching and by drawing their own pictures with the program’s graphic design tools.
Students learned how to use multimedia tools like video, photography and audio recording to add an extra dimension to their books. Students also learned how to use the microphone feature to search for images that they could not spell. Students especially enjoyed the “Collaboration” feature wherein they could share their story with other students and work on the same story together from their own chromebooks (similar to sharing a google doc or slide show).
In addition to making books on Book Creator, fifth grade students had the option to create an end of the year graduation podcast through the podcasting platform of their choice (Soundtrap, GoogleSlide Voice Recorder, Flipgrid, RevOnline Voice Recorder). Students interviewed each other about their 5th grade school year and described the highlights of their elementary school experience. Students also had a good time singing and performing in their podcasts to celebrate their graduation from elementary school.
