ROTC
Cadets from E. C. Glass High School Air Force JROTC have advanced to compete in the National Championships of the JROTC Academic Bowl. The local team was one of only 16 from across the nation who advanced to Nationals from a pool of 462 teams at the start of this season. The winner of the Air Force JROTC Championship will compete against winners of the Army, Marine Corps and Navy JROTC Academic Bowls in the JROTC Joint Service Academic Bowl Championship.
JROTC Academic Bowl competition is conducted in a quiz show type format with questions coming from seven categories: Vocabulary, Grammar, Reading Comprehension, Math, Science, Current Events, and military/JROTC Knowledge.
The team roster includes Cadet Airman First Class Tor Anderson, Cadet Technical Sergeant Walter Webber and the team captain, Cadet Major Jillian Nylund. Cadet Airman Caroline Phelps rounds up the team (not in photo).
The College Options Foundation sponsors the annual JROTC Academic Bowl. COF is a not-for-profit organization, dedicated to enriching the academic development of JROTC students and military families assisting them in preparation for higher education. One goal of the JROTC Academic Bowl is to prepare students for graduation and college entrance exams such as SAT and ACT.
Please render a crisp salute to these sharp JROTC Cadets!

SOL Testing Schedule
SOL Testing Update:
The Virginia Department of Education has not waived the SOL tests for Spring 2021. However, one change for Spring 2021 SOL's is that the cut score has been lowered to 350. If your child scores a 350 or higher on their SOL, verified credit can be awarded to your student. This will decrease the number of times your child may have to come into the building for SOL testing. Please note, there is no remote SOL testing. All SOL tests are to be conducted in-person at ECG on secure servers. Students will NOTbe allowed to have a smart watch, earbuds, or cell phone on them during the SOL test. We recommend keeping these items at home on your assigned SOL test day. Otherwise you will be asked to put it in a designated container during the duration of the SOL test. You are expected to bring your FULLY CHARGED LAPTOP and POWER CORD on SOL test days. Desks will be 6 feet a part, hand sanitizer will be available, and you will need to wear your mask during the entire time you are in the building.
SOLs for Remote Learners:
For students who are remote learners, you may only come in to take your SOL on Mondays beginning at 8:15am. We are encouraging our remote learners to attend these designated Mondays as they will need their verified credits for graduation purposes. You will receive a google form to let us know if you intend to come into the building and if you need bus transportation. Lunch will be provided to students from the cafeteria. If you do not plan on coming to ECG in-person for SOL testing, please inform the ECG School Testing Coordinator (Gwen Miller-Goulder, millergouldergp@lcsedu.net). To be clear, if you choose not to take the SOL test, your student will still be responsible for their verified credits for graduation as set by the Virginia Department of Education.
SOLs for Hybrid Learners:
Hybrid students will be taking their End of Course SOLs when they report to school during their cohort day. Please see the calendar below as well. You will have one school day to take your SOL. There are no multi-day EOC Non-Writing SOLs.

AP Test Schedule
Please click on the link below for the AP testing schedule.
*Thursday, May 20 - Due by 11:59 P.M.--- Seminar & Research performance tasks
Final digital submissions of AP Art/Design portfolios.
By LCS policy, unless there are mitigating circumstances that may warrant an exception, tests will be given to all students by the above schedule. Based on the start times of noon & 4:00 PM, we anticipate most students will choose to take digital exams at home. However, any student who needs to take a digital exam at Glass should contact Mrs. Wise. The same is true for any student who may need to choose a different test option (either Administration 1, which is all pencil & paper, or Administration 3, which is mostly digital and takes place in June. Visit apcentral.collegeboard.org for all days and times of each Test Administration. Any student who needs to test during a different administration or at school for a digital test should please contact Mrs. Wise via email at wiselw@lcsedu.net or by phone at (434)515-5370, ext. 34029 by March 5.
Please note, this year’s digital tests are full 3 hour tests (same format as the pencil & paper tests) and run on a different platform than last year’s “emergency” tests. Thus, digital testing will not present the types of issues some students encountered last year.
Parents, please see AP Letter from LCS concerning this year’s AP Test Administration for more information. This letter should have also been posted to all Google Classrooms of AP Teachers.
Attendance
Regular Attendance
Regular attendance helps our students excel in learning.
Lynchburg City Schools is checking student attendance on a daily basis. We need all of our students, whether they are remote learners or in-person (hybrid) learners, to be involved with school every day.
Parents, guardians, and families, you are essential partners in promoting good school attendance even in this most challenging time. When a student misses one day or one lesson, that means they may have missed something critical to their understanding of the next several days of instruction.
High schools will be checking attendance each day using a daily attendance question. Beginning Monday, November 2, hybrid AND remote-only students will be required to log into their Homeroom Google Classroom each day by 3:00 p.m. and respond to the Daily Attendance Question.
If students do not complete the daily attendance check-in as outlined above, beginning the week of November 2, 2020, families will receive an automated phone call letting them know that their student was marked absent on the previous day. If the student or family believes the recorded absence is in error, please reach out to the school. ! #AttendanceMatters #Hilltoppers #Dare2Lead #TogetherWeKeepClimbing

Remote Learning Tips
Are you and your student struggling with how to structure the remote learning school day? Having trouble navigating Google Classroom? Need some ways to manage your stress?
Luckily, a team of Hilltopper teachers put together a resource to help give students ideas on ways to be successful: setting up a schedule, navigating Google Classroom, stress management, brain breaks, what a virtual learning day could look like, and more! These were created in the hope that one or more of these resources will help you become even more successful this school year (and beyond)! Here is a short, one page resource for students as well as a more detailed set of slides for families.
