CUSD was selected to be a part of The JED Foundation’s District Comprehensive Approach (DCA), which was created in partnership with The School Superintendents Association (AASA). They are asking students across the nation in selected Districts to participate in the “JED High School Student Survey.” This is an anonymous, confidential survey (your student’s responses are kept secure, and their name, email, and other identifying information will not be recorded).

Participating in ACT District testing provides your students with the opportunity to assess their academic skills and level of college readiness in a familiar environment. Having all students participate raises college awareness and exposure among all students, rather than only self-selected, college-bound students. For some students, the experience may help them realize they have the skills to perform college-level coursework.

This week is National School Social Worker Week and Perry is so blessed to have Ms. Skylar Gardner as the school's social worker! Ms. Gardner is a Hamilton graduate who pursued her bachelors degree in social work, then immediately attended ASU, where she earned her masters in social work. She has been at Perry for three years (1 year as an inter, then the last 2 years as the full-time social worker). As social worker, Ms. Gardner provides social emotional and mental health supports for Perry students.

When asked how she enjoys working at Perry, she said, "I love this student population. Teenagers are so much fun! They are overlooked by a lot of people but they are the most willing to get help and succeed."

Congratulations to our Boys Soccer team who played their hearts out in some very windy conditions! They are the 6A State Championship Runner Up! What an incredible season! We are so proud of them!

Varsity basketball punched their ticket to the Open Semi Finals! The team beat Ironwood 67-45! Perry will take on O'Connor on Wednesday, 8:00PM at Chaparral High School!

The Perry Freshman Academic Awards will take place on March 3, 2025 in the main gym.

Invitations have been sent to those who are invited to the ceremony.

The American Battle Monument Foundation invites students ages 11-12, 13-15, and 16-18 to compete. Apply online ABMF Submit essay by April 27, 2025. Prizes range from $10K-$1500.

The AZ Diamondbacks and the University of Phoenix are teaming up to invest up to $150,000 in AZ K-12 schools for the most unique and impactful projects and programs. Applications are due March 14. See the link below for more details.

The AZ Diamondbacks and Honeywell Futureshapers STEM Grants Program supports 10 schools with a $5,000 grant to bring STEM projects to life! See the link for more details.

Invitations for National Honor Society will be delivered to eligible students through their English classes this week. Any sophomore, junior, or senior with a 3.8 GPA or above should receive an invitation. The invitation will include information about how to join the prospective member Google Classroom and access the candidate form. There will also be an informational meeting for all eligible students on Thursday, February 20 in the auditorium during conference period.

Students must complete the candidate form to be considered for NHS membership. Candidate forms and signature sheets will be due on March 6.

Attention student drivers: please make sure that you are not leaving trash near your car or in the parking lot. We are starting to have issues with this, especially in the main student lot. Leaving trash may cause you to lose your parking privileges. Please clean up after yourself.

The IMPACT Chandler program, facilitated by the Chandler Education Foundation (CEF), celebrates service leadership and academic excellence across CUSD high schools. This year, CEF made changes to expand access, streamline hour tracking, and enhance program quality.

These updates have been communicated to students, but to clarify a few key points for parents:

Hours Approval

• Over 6,000 students participate in this program, and CEF has a small team processing submissions. Please allow time for approvals.

• Seniors’ hours are prioritized to ensure they meet the IMPACT criteria deadline (March 24).

• If a submission is missing details, students will be asked to provide more information. If students do not update within 30 days, it will be declined but can be resubmitted.

Scholarship Information

• Graduating with IMPACT honors does not guarantee a scholarship.

• To be considered for the IMPACT scholarship, seniors must apply by March 24.

• The CEF scholarship application – for all scholarship opportunities - is now open for CUSD seniors. Some scholarships require extra materials (essays, references, etc.), so early submission is highly recommended.

• The number of scholarships available each year depends on funds raised through the Winner’s Choice Car or Cash Raffle fundraiser.

Participation

• Any CUSD high school student can register to participate in the IMPACT Chandler program at any time through Infinite Campus. Service hours, however, can only be submitted from the date of program registration forward. Service hours completed prior to registration in the program are not eligible.

Parents of Seniors – CEF Scholarship Applications Open January 6!

The Chandler Education Foundation (CEF) offers more than 200 scholarship awards for CUSD graduating seniors.

The CEF scholarship Application portal will open Monday, January 6, and the deadline to submit is Monday, March 24. This includes the application form, essays, and all required documents for the IMPACT, Donor, and Foundation scholarships.

Winter break is a great time for students to get ahead! If they haven’t already, encourage your student to:

· Gather references (contact info and permission) from teachers, coaches, or mentors.

· Create a list of activities, awards, and leadership roles in school or the community.

· Outline their future goals for college or career and plans to achieve them.

· Include any special considerations evaluators should know.

Taking time over the break, away from classes and homework, can make their application stronger and improve their chances of earning a financial award.

As part of our efforts to maintain a safe, secure online experience for students, Chandler Unified School District uses a technology tool known as Lightspeed in grades K-12.

Lightspeed will flag content referencing intentions of violence, drug and alcohol use, sex, self-harm, hate speech, pornography, etc. It will also analyze images to block pornography and obscene visuals from reaching students.

Lightspeed representative review google files throughout the day and night and send alerts to administrators at the school and the district office. School administrators will contact parents/guardians when an alert is received. If a parent/guardian cannot be reached, administrators will contact local law enforcement to request a well-check on students of alerts regarding threats of self-harm.

All school rules apply to the content on a student's Google Drive. Students are encouraged to practice responsible digital citizenship.

Lightspeed Alert is another tool CUSD uses. This tool is an anonymous tip line for students to share concerns about school safety and the well-being of fellow students. Trained professionals evaluate content and send an email regarding non-life-threatening items to school administrators. They will also call school officials in emergency situations and can even contact local law enforcement.

Students may report:

- Bullying

- Planned fights

Students in crisis

- Threats of violence

- Weapons brought to school

- Other urgent situations

To help parents and students learn more about this initiative, we have created our 1:1 Student Guide website, which you can find at https://1to1.gse.cusd80.com. There is a lot of information on this website, but we feel it is important to the success of this initiative to clearly communicate all of it to our parents and students. We encourage all of you to review this information with your child(ren) so you have a clear understanding of device expectations, maintenance, etc.

Parents and students. Our District and school use a program called Lightspeed on student devices. Lightspeed will notify District and school administration immediately if there are any “key” inappropriate words, phrases and/or photos used/found on the device. This is active anytime the student is on their student device. This includes afterschool hours and on the weekends.

Please remind your student to use their device for educational purposes only. Students found not using their device appropriately risk possible discipline and/ or loss of technology privilege's. It is important the student devices are used properly and for the purpose of education.

Student passwords (both AD/Microsoft and Google) will be reset as follows:

Pattern: first initial + last initial + birthdate (MMDDYY format)

Example: sophomore Ani Smith whose birthday is October 3, 2007 will have their password reset to as100307

7-12 students will be forced to change their password after it is reset

Students can change their Google password by logging in to their Google account (accounts.google.com) with their reset password on any device, at school or at home

• Username for Google is s+id@gse.cusd80.com – example s123456@gse.cusd80.com

Students can change their Microsoft password by either:

· logging on to a CUSD Windows device with their reset password, or

· logging in to the Microsoft portal (myaccount.microsoft.com) with their reset password on any device at school or at home.

• Username for Microsoft is s+id@s.cusd80.com – example s123456@s.cusd80.com

All 2-12 students must change their Microsoft password after it is reset before accessing Infinite Campus.

As part of the 1:1 technology initiative, a student fee of $25 will be added annually to InTouch to enroll in the Device Protection Plan (DPP). Annual enrollment in the plan will minimize the potential repair and/or replacement fees associated with the device.

This year, the fee will be added to accounts on Monday, August 5. The fee must be paid by the due date (Monday, September 2) in order to be enrolled in the plan (click here for instructions to pay the fee in Infinite Campus). All devices will be considered covered by the Device Protection Plan until September 2. If the fee is not paid by September 2, it is implied that the family is opting out of the annual DPP coverage, and although the fee will be shown as "overdue" in InTouch, there is no additional action required on your part. After September 2, you may enroll in the Device Protection Plan only after an inspection of the device at your school's Tech Center.

Students renewing their annual DPP will have continued coverage as long as the payment is made by Monday, September 2.

Students adding the DPP for the first time will need to have their device inspected and enrollment in the DPP does not begin until the fee payment has been received. There will be no refunds given on DPP purchase if a student leaves CUSD or upon graduation. The fee is not prorated for any reason.

The parking application is an online application. You must have a Google email to apply for a parking permit. You can use your student GSE account or any Gmail address to apply.

Applications are on a first-come, first-serve basis.

1. Once your application is approved, we will notify you via email and add the $80.00 parking fee to your account on Infinite Campus. CHECK YOUR EMAIL.
2. Payments will be accepted online via your parent portal, Infinite Campus.
3. Your parking pass will be available for pick up. Please see the schedule below.
4. Proof of ID, Proof of Payment and your Class Schedule are required to pick up your tag.

24-25 PHS Student Parking Application

A student activity pass will be available to purchase during Puma Days. The cost is $35.00. This pass entitles students to free admission to all home athletic contests except A.I.A. tournaments. With the card, some social activities on campus will have reduced costs. The pass will double as a student I.D. for school activities. The replacement cost is $5.00.

Arizona law ARS 43-1089.01 enables taxpayers a tax credit contribution of up to $400.00 per calendar year if filing status is Married, filing Joint Return; $200.00 per calendar year if filing status is Single or Head of Household; and $200.00 per calendar year if filing status is Married filing separate return — for contributions that fund extracurricular activities in public schools. A tax credit is a full refund, not a deduction.

Both the city of Gilbert and city of Chandler have issued two new safety ordinances effective June 24th: Unruly Gathering Law and Brass Knuckles Law.

Unruly Gathering Law- violators can be issued a citation and fined or they can be charged with a class one misdemeanor if any of the following occur at a gathering: person under 21 possessing or consuming alcohol, illegal drugs, act designated as a felony under state law, a physical altercation that causes bodily injury, or previous citation for unruly gatherings within 180 days.

Brass Knuckles Law- people under the age of 18 are prohibited from possessing or purchasing brass knuckles, businesses must confirm that that purchaser is at least 18 years old, people and businesses who violate this law can be charged with a class one misdemeanor.
