PRAYER
Loving God, through your Son, Jesus, you show us how to be happy.
In this special time of Lent, may we listen to Jesus as he tells us how to care for one another, how to encourage and support one another and how to be accepting and welcoming to all.
We ask this prayer through Jesus, your Son.
Amen

Staffing
Unfortunately, due to family reasons, Cristina Tian (Education Assistant in Kindy and 1 day PP) has decided she won’t be able to continue with her employment here at QOA. In the short time she has been with us she has been very professional and fitted in very well with our staff. Cristina’s last day with us will be 21st March. We are in the process of finding a new EA and will let you know once that process is complete.
NAPLAN
This week our Year 3 and 5’s started their NAPLAN testing. Everything to this point has run very smoothly and I would like to thank Miss Jenzen and Mrs Maloney for their organisation. Next week we will conclude the testing and run catch ups for any students who have been absent. I would also like thank the parents of our Year 3 and 5’s for making sure the students have been on time and in a positive frame of mind.
The assessments will be conducted in the following order for both year levels.
Wednesday 12th March = Writing
Thursday 13th March = Reading
Monday 17th March = Conventions of Language
Tuesday 18th March = Numeracy
Catch up assessments for those who are away on these days will available until Monday 24th March.
Interschool Swimming Carnival
Good luck to all our swimmers competing in the Interschool Swimming carnival tomorrow at the Fremantle Leisure Centre. I know that you will give a great account of yourselves in the competition. I thank Mr B for his work in preparing the swimmers for this event. Go Queenies!
Year 6 Camp
Next Wednesday our Year 6’s will head down to Point Walter in Bicton for school camp. This is always a much-anticipated event amongst our Year 6 students, and they are very excited. Miss Moro, Ms Lesque, Mr Bridgeman and I will be accompanying the Year 6 class, and I must say I am very much looking forward to seeing our students challenge themselves at some of the activities they will be faced with. It will be a great opportunity to hone their leadership skills as they prepare for high school next year.
Colour Explosion
The Colour Explosion on Friday 4th April promises to be a very exciting day. We need everyone to register and start raising money for the P&F that will be spent on items such as classroom furniture and educational line marking. Colour Explosion packs have been sent home with each student and there are some great prizes on offer for students who raise certain amounts of money. Our P&F have worked extremely hard to get this event up and running and I can’t thank them enough for the work they have done. More information is available in the P&F section of the newsletter.
Parent Teacher Interviews
This year our Kindy to Year 6 staff will conduct their Parent/Teacher interviews on Friday 11th April. The teachers will be available for a face to face or online meeting on this day. In the coming weeks you will receive instructions about booking these meetings. Please note this is a pupil free day.
Volunteering
The Government of WA have amended the Working with Children Act last year with the changes implemented to better protect children. Catholic Education WA has mandated this process for all volunteers, including parent volunteers in schools. This includes parents who wish to volunteer at sports carnivals, in classrooms and at P&F events. Could we ask that all parents fill in the Volunteer Declaration (link) even if you have no plans at this stage to volunteer at school. If you filled out the form last year you will need to do it again this year. Parents who wish to assist teachers on excursions will need to be on this list. Your information will be stored securely in accordance with CEWA’s Information Stewardship. We highly value parent volunteers' time and contribution to our school community and thank-you for taking the time to submit the form below.
Any grandparents that wish to volunteer in the classroom or assist in the canteen will need a Working With Children Check. Please note this does not include drop off, pick up or attendance at our Grandparents Mass and Morning Tea. Grandparents that would like to volunteer at school, please contact the school office and we can assist you in the process.
Best Wishes
Mark Ryan
