Eye on FISD
January 10, 2025
From Dr. Gilstrap
Welcome back! I hope you enjoyed the holiday season and had a great start to the new year. This spring semester will be filled with activities and events, and we look forward to seeing our community supporting our students. Remember to check in with your child’s teachers to ensure a successful school year. If your family needs assistance, don’t hesitate to reach out to our staff.
As you visit our campuses this spring, please remember to adhere to our safety and security guidelines. Help us keep our schools safe and report any suspicious activity immediately. If you see something, say something.
I want to give an update on our Master Facility Plan and the 2025-2026 school calendar. I first would like to thank you for providing feedback in regards to these two important topics. The Facility Task Force identified project priorities and made a recommendation to the Board of Trustees earlier this week. We will continue to work with board members on funding options, keeping the needs of our students, staff, and community in mind. Calendar options are still a work in progress, but we expect to present a final school calendar to our board members for approval in March. More information can be found below.
Thank you for your support!
Calendar Survey Results
Thank you to everyone who participated in the school calendar survey! Your input is greatly appreciated.
Floresville ISD surveyed staff, parents and students, and the results are in! About 68% of the participants said they would be in favor of a 4-day or 4-day hybrid schedule if the district provided child care on the 5th day. The district held its second community meeting last night and will be presenting all of the feedback to the Calendar Committee this Tuesday, January 14. Based on all of this information and parameters provided by the Board of Trustees, calendar options will then be created. A final calendar option will be presented for approval during the regular board meeting on March 3.

"Dangerous Teen Trends" Presentation
FISD will host a Parent & Family Engagement Workshop in the FMS Cafeteria from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 12, titled "Dangerous Teen Trends." The session will aim to provide parents with insights into prevalent risks, including vaping, fentanyl abuse, human trafficking and social media pitfalls. By understanding these trends and their implications, parents can better equip themselves to support and safeguard the adolescents in their lives. Be on the lookout for more information in the coming weeks.

Donated by Floresville FFA
We want to thank students, staff, and the community for going to great lengths to help those who need it most. Our FISD Community Closet received tons of donations of new and gently used coats, jackets, beanies, and gloves, along with several clothing donations in recent weeks! These items are ready to be distributed to district families in need of something to keep them warm during the colder months of the year.
Our Family Resource Center also received a generous donation of hygiene supplies! These items will greatly benefit students and families facing hardships.
Thank you!
ConocoPhillips presented Floresville ISD with a donation of $67,500 in November. The funds come from the Eagle Ford charity golf event hosted by crude oil and natural gas company last year. We are excited for the scholarship opportunities this will bring to our students. A big "Thank you" goes to all those who made this generous donation possible! Your kindness will make a real difference in the future of our kids!
