Constructing Meaning Institutes

Have you heard about the fantastic Constructing Meaning PD from your colleagues? Have you, too, wanted to learn how to provide greater access to rigorous content and to support academic language in your subject area classes? Have you been hesitant to commit to a five-day workshop because of the sub days required?

This fall we will offer three different strands of CM that will include all-staff PD days. Please see the options below.

More institutes will be offered later in the year, but will require more sub time.

CM Strand 6, open to all subject area teachers, will take place on the following days:

Day 1: August 9th

Day 2: August 10th

Day 3: September 17th

Day 4: October 9th

Day 5: January 8th

The first two days of the training will be paid on a timesheet. September 17th and January 8th are all-staff PD Days. This option is limited to 28 teachers.

CM Strand 7, open to all subject area teachers, will take place on the following days:

Day 1: September 17th

Day 2: September 18th

Day 3: October 3rd

Day 4: October 25th

Day 5: January 8th

September 17th and January 8th are all-staff PD Days. There are three sub days included in this institute. This option is limited to 28 teachers.

CM Strand 8, tailored particularly to math teachers, will take place on the following days:

Day 1: September 17th

Day 2: September 26th

Day 3: October 16th

Day 4: November 8th

Constructing Meaning provides teachers with the process and tools for weaving explicit language instruction into content-area teaching. Lesson planning is driven by the content and academic language demands of discipline-specific learning. Feedback from SUHSD teachers has been resoundingly positive. This is what we've heard:
