From the Principal:
Dear St. Bernard Parents,
Let me start by sharing some great news… While some of you know, it hasn’t yet been shared with the larger community - Mrs. Gonya is expecting! We are so excited for her and Mr. Gonya as they prepare to welcome God’s gift into the world. Please pray for Mrs. Gonya and a healthy pregnancy. With her due date being April 26, we will be planning for a “long-term” substitute to finish out the year. If you know of someone who might be a good fit for that sub position please direct them to contact me. It will be immediately following our Easter Break and in the midst of some end-of-the-year wackiness, but we will have plans and plenty of structure for our lucky stand-in.
There is no gift more beautiful or generous than the gift of a child! Today the Gospel Reading and Father Bryan’s homily focused on gifts from God and our call to be people of gratitude. In the Gospel Reading from the 17th Chapter of Luke, we heard the story of Jesus healing 10 lepers… But only one of them returned to thank Jesus and glorify God. After asking the students what they were thankful for, Father Bryan encouraged everyone to make that sense of gratitude a part of their prayers. It is crucial for all of us to remember that ALL that we have is gift from God and that we must be like that one leper who actually returned to give thanks, and also glorify God.
I am prompted to share with you a tradition that I began with my family shortly after starting at St. Bernard. An existing custom in our family was to pray whenever we packed into the car to go somewhere - including traveling home from school. I decided that this particular time for prayer would be to say something that we were thankful for (I would lead and the kids would take turns) and then give praise to God (like the grateful leper who “returned, glorifying God in a loud voice”). For our prayer of praise we adopted the Divine Praises - a beautiful and traditional devotional prayer. I want to encourage you to adopt this or some other prayer of thanksgiving and praise tradition with your own family. And like Father Bryan said, “all is gift,” so don’t be surprised to hear “no homework” or “trees” or “sunshine” or something more profound when you invite your children to share one thing they are thankful for. As an added bonus, this can be the segway to asking your child about his/her day!
Have a great evening! God bless!
Sincerely,
Mr. Ertel
The Divine Praises
Blessed be God.
Blessed be his holy Name.
Blessed be Jesus Christ, true God and true man.
Blessed be the Name of Jesus.
Blessed be his most Sacred Heart.
Blessed be his most Precious Blood.
Blessed be Jesus in the most holy Sacrament of the altar.
Blessed be the Holy Spirit, the Paraclete.
Blessed be the great Mother of God, Mary most holy.
Blessed be her holy and Immaculate Conception.
Blessed be her glorious Assumption.
Blessed be the name of Mary, Virgin and Mother.
Blessed be Saint Joseph, her most chaste Spouse.
Blessed be God in his Angels and in his Saints.
Amen.
Spirit of St. Bernard Day: Friday, November 22nd

We have been asked in particular for the following items: jelly, canned chicken, canned stew, saltine crackers, children's toiletries including kids toothpaste, toothbrushes, shampoo.

From Parents Club:
Hi Families! There are a lot of updates from Parents Club so let's jump right in!
- Nothing Bundt Cake Fundraiser ends tomorrow (11/14). Please turn in any paper order forms with payment to the school office by Thursday morning. The online link will be open through Thursday morning as well and can be accessed here: https://nothing-bundt-cakes-fundraiser-94914.cheddarup.com We will send out detailed pick up instructions next week. Thanks again for your support of this "sweet" fundraiser!
- Thanksgiving Feast is next Friday (11/22). We are so fortunate that many people have already signed up to help with food prep and serving. There are still spots available to assist with cleanup after the event. You can sign up here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/30E0C44ACA729A2F94-53030902-thanksgiving#/
- Our school Book Fair is also next week. We are looking for volunteers to assist with the book fair throughout the week, helping students view the books and create their wish list and then helping with orders later in the week. Available time slots are listed on this sign up genius link. All help is appreciated! https://www.signupgenius.com/go/4090A44ACAC28A5F94-53230717-2024
- Save the Date for our Family Movie Night on Friday, December 6th at 7pm in the Parish Center! We will be watching some Christmas classics like Frosty the Snowman. We will be having a snowball fight during intermission. Bring a pair of new socks for the snowball fight (snow sock fight?!?) and we will donate all of the socks to a local charity!
We also wanted to thank everyone that participated in our Dine to Donate event at Panda Express last month. We raised $495! Those funds will be used to supplement the cost of our Thanksgiving Feast this year and support other Parents Club activities for the school. You all are amazingly generous!
Girls Basketball Registration Open!!!
Registration is open through November 17th.

IMPORTANT: EDCHOICE REQUIREMENTS
Our school has 175 scholarships awarded for the 2024-25 school year. There are two important steps that I need parents to complete in order for the school to receive scholarship funds to cover tuition costs:
- For each awarded EdChoice scholarship, I must have an Acceptance Form signed and turned in at the office. Nearly everyone has signed and returned them. If you have not already, please contact me in the school office. Thank you!
- Please follow the LINK to authorize St. Bernard School to deposit funds from the scholarship checks to pay for tuition. The Ohio Department of Education issues scholarship checks on a monthly basis which require this permission to be deposited. Please take care of this immediately if you have not already. Again, most of you took care of this. Thank you!
Please contact me in the school office if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you!
Yours in Christ,
Kenny Glassmeyer, Office Manager

Catholic High School Admissions Links
Due to the high volume of recruiting and admissions events that we receive information for, I'm opting to include links to all of the area Catholic high schools that have either shared information for the newsletter or one or more families have expressed interest in.
8th Grade Parents: Attached is the Archdiocese of Cincinnati Release of Records Authorization Form for high school applicants. I can provide you with paper copies in the office.
Please make sure you are registering your 8th grader for the High School Placement Test and completing all application requirements as prescribed by the high schools. St. Bernard records will be sent according to your forms following the Trimester 1 report cards. I usually send records while Parent/Teacher Conferences are being held on the week of Thanksgiving.
