Northview Familia,
Northview students had an average daily attendance rate of 95.1% for the week of 10/14 to 10/18 -- that's a 0.9% drop from last week and 1.9% drop from two weeks ago. Please continue to have conversations with your student regarding the importance of being at school every day. Keep it up, Vikings!
Congratulations to four of our Vikings who auditioned for and were selected to be in the Pasadena City College Tournament of Roses Honor Band this year! Three of our juniors were selected: Andres Taboada (Trumpet), Andrew Hernandez (Tuba), and Jade Maniti (Trombone). We also had a sophomore selected: Samuel Magaña (Trumpet). A big shout out to Andrew-Sigala-Gonzalez for also auditioning as a freshman.
Our first ACE Mentor field trip took place on Saturday, October 19, 2024. The group traveled to the to Miguel Contreras Learning Complex for a site visit and competition with 30 other ACE chapters from the Los Angeles area (See picture below). Our next meeting is on November 5. All students can still join.
We are hosting an AP Parent Meeting on Tuesday, October 29, 2024 at 5:30pm in the Northview Library. We'll see you there!

AP Exams
Reminder: Sign Up for AP Exams by November 8th!
Taking the AP Exam can be a great way to earn college credit, boost your college applications, and save on tuition costs! Remember, students need to sign up and pay for their exams on both the College Board website and the Total Registration website by Friday, November 8th.
Here's some great news: If you've filled out the Education Benefits Form, your exam will only cost $15! If you haven't filled out the form, exam fees will be $103 or $153, depending on the test.

AVID Future Ready
College applications are officially open and Northview students are hard at work! Students have attended preview days at both UCR and UCI to learn about the admission process. We're also hard at work preparing for Future Day! Seniors will have the opportunity on October 22 to participate in financial aid workshops, fill out applications for Citrus and Mt. Sac, and complete on the spot admissions for multiple schools! We look forward to this event every year. Thank you for your continuous support of our seniors as they work hard to complete their applications!

This week, our counselors and academic advisors had the pleasure of meeting with Seniors to assist them in their college applications. Thank you to all the students who attended and took advantage of this opportunity!
Upcoming College Application Workshop
Our next College Application Workshop will take place on October 29 during lunch, 6th period, 7th period, and after school until 4:15 PM in Room D-4. This is a great chance to get hands-on help with your CSU, UC, private, and out-of-state college applications. Don’t wait until the last minute—come prepared with any questions or documents you need assistance with!
Future Day – October 22
Mark your calendars for Tuesday, October 22! Future Day is dedicated to supporting Seniors with their post-secondary plans. Whether you're applying to CSU, UC, private or out-of-state schools, or community colleges, this is the day for you! We will also have representatives from trade schools and the armed forces present. Don’t miss out on this fantastic opportunity to explore your options and get the help you need to finalize your plans.
UC San Diego College Presentation – October 21
Are you interested in UC San Diego? Attend the UC San Diego College Presentation on October 21! To sign up, please speak with Mrs. Worley in the library. This is a great chance to learn more about the admissions process, academic programs, and campus life at UCSD.
C-VUSD College Fair – October 22
Lastly, we are excited to remind ALL students and families about the upcoming 2024 Covina-Valley Unified School District College Fair on October 22! This is a fantastic opportunity to meet representatives from a wide range of colleges and universities, ask questions, and gather information to help you make informed decisions about your future. Don’t miss out!

Sports At the View
Football
Congratulations to our Football team on their victory over Alta Loma HS last week!
Varsity football will be home for their Senior Night game against West Covina HS on Thursday, October 24 at 7:00pm. We will celebrate our Football and Cheer Seniors prior to kickoff! Vikings -- Join us in the student section for a Construction theme!
JV football will be away for their game against West Covina HS on Friday, October 25 at 3:30pm and Freshmen football will be home for their game against West Covina HS on Friday, October 25 at 3:30 pm.
Volleyball
Congratulations to our Volleyball team on earning the title of Valle Vista League Champs!
Our Volleyball team will be home for their first game of the playoffs against Acaciawood Academy on Thursday, October 24 at 6:00pm.
Due to CIF Regulations, tickets will be available for purchase through GoFan ONLY! Cash will not be accepted at the door. A reminder that CIF does require all students to purchase a ticket, regardless of whether they have ASB/VIP. Tickets will be: $12 for General Admission | $6 for Student/Child.
Flag Football
Our Flag Football team will be home at District Field for their first game of the playoffs against Brentwood HS on Tuesday, October 22 at 4:00pm.
Girls Tennis
Varsity tennis will be away and JV will be home for their match against Covina HS on Thursday, October 24 at 3:15pm.
Cross Country
Shoutout to Cross Country for competing at the Bell Gardens Invite! Congratulations to Gary Strobehn who placed 2nd out of a field of 274 runners and Freshman Moises Gonzalez who placed 2nd in the Freshman race!
ESports
ESports will compete in Valorant and Chess on Tuesday, October 22 at 4:00pm in B4. They will also compete in Mario Kart and NBA 2K on Wednesday, October 23 at 4:15pm in E7. The team will compete again in Super Smash and Madden on Thursday, October 24 at 4:15pm in E7.

Teacher of the Month
Shout out to Mr. Rienstra for being voted Teacher of the Month by our student body! Mr. Rienstra is one of our math teachers on campus, but you can also find him working the scoreboard at our home football games. Thank you for all you do to support our Viking community!
Football Youth Night - 10/24
Calling all K-8 students attending one of our feeder track schools! If you go to Merwin, Cypress, Grovecenter, Manzanita, or Las Palmas, join us on for Football Youth Night on Thursday, October 24! K-8 students who attend our feeder track schools and wear their school's shirt to the game will get in for FREE!
This game is also Football and Cheer Senior Night! Join us as we celebrate our Seniors! Be sure to stay for the special halftime show featuring the Spirit of Northview and the Las Palmas band!

Seniors, appointments for the final round of Senior Portraits open today! If you were unable to schedule an appointment during our September dates, make sure you schedule yours ASAP for November 12, 13, or 14. Remember, this is the photo that will be used in the yearbook!

Staff Spotlight
Mr. Jennings has been teaching for 15 years. His room is a work of art. His classroom displays his work and student work that really captivates you. Mr. Jennings passion for art and drawing started at a young age and it spills over into the music realm too. He enjoys strumming the guitar and jamming. You can find a couple guitars hanging in his classroom as well.
If you have had the pleasure of interacting with Mr. Jennings you know why he is such a talented teacher. His ability to connect with students and encourage their artistic views is really amazing. Thank you for grit and gold!

Attendance Matters
Attendance Incentive Awards:
Kick off the Spooky Season with our October Attendance challenge! Have perfect attendance (no absences and no tardies) for the month of October and enjoy a spicy gummy bear station during lunch on Halloween, October 31st. Our goal is for Northview Vikings to be at school everyday, on time.

Our Saturday School from 10/19 has been rescheduled to 10/26.
Detention Information
Detention is being held Tuesdays and Thursdays during lunch in room L-1 and Wednesdays after school in room B-2 from 3:35 pm-4:05 pm. If students are assigned detention, they are expected to arrive on time and stay for the full time.
